Unhappy Power DVD problems... PLZ help

When watching DVD's with aspect ratios 2.35:1 & 2.40:1 on Power DVD 5 with Vista the black horizontal bars appear a more lighter black then the normal black of full screen..

So it looks like this:

Is there a way around this? Do I have to get a newer version of Power DVD?

Also another annoying problem is when I pause the DVD it goes black.

Whats a good Power DVD version to get thats good with vista?

This use to happen somtimes in XP IIRC.

Help really needed, Thanks.

That's because the bars are encoded into the picture... the rest of the black is generated by your computer. If there are video settings, try adjusting them until the blacks match.

I reckon its somthing with the program... because playing it in WMP looks so much better, on full screen the black bares blends with my black screen & it doesn't have the faint annoying horizontal lines like power dvd does.

That's what I just said... I meant sometimes different programs have individual picture controls.
