Default Please, I need help with a 7.1ch audio setup for my PS3.

First off, I would like to thank all the members here for such an awsome forum. I have been reading the posts and news on this site for over two years now, and I finally dec ided it was time to join in.

So here is what I am looking for.

-7.1ch surround sound that will work with PS3 for games/movies
-All Sony brand reciver, speakers, what ever else there is
-what kind of cables do I need?

After all the reviews of Killzone 2 started pooring in about how well the audio was used especially in surroud sound, I have come to the conclusion that tax returns plus major reason, is enough for a new surround system.

Thanks for any feedback. I really have no knowledge in surround systems, and I looked at all the recivers, and speakers that Sony offers, and I thought thsi place would be able to steer me right.

Note; I have a buget of $2,500.

I'd actually recommend an Onkyo receiver. I've got the 605 and for a starter receiver it's excellent and reasonably priced. It's nowhere near top of the line, but very much in line with your budget, and has plenty of bells and whistles. For cables, you will need HDMI from the PS3 to the receiver and then the receiver to the TV. For those, get them from monoprice.com. They are only a few dollars each, and they work perfect. You can also get your speaker wire from there too. I'll let others quibble about what gauge you should get.

I will let others recommend speakers, but no matter what the recommendation, go to a store and listen to them first. Make sure you like what you are hearing from them. Bring your own CD with you that so you can listen to something you enjoy and know what it should sound like.

Thank You Marquoz. I would really love to branch out on brands, but it is for my family living room, and ease of use is the highest must on the list. According to some reviews I have read Sony uses the XMB for its recivers, and the whole family is already trained in the ways of XMB, and I don't want to go throwing something new out there.

Also, HDMI is very good to hear. I thought it needed that cable that goes in the little square slot that both PS3, and PS2 have. I know HDMI so that makes it worlds easier for me.

I use a Sony STR-DA3300ES receiver, works very well with PS3, I use Yamaha speakers in stead of Sony speakers.

TBH, branching out is the best thing you can do in terms of quality for that budget. There is no "training" to do when you use other brand products. You turn on your TV, you turn on the receiver, you turn the receiver knob to "PS3" which is what I named it, you turn on your ps3. Any 5 year old kid can do this. If you feel like you need to have a crash course 101 for your family to turn a simple receiver knob then I'm sorry because you are missing out on other great brands. Sony makes good products but they are definitely not the premier choice in HT equipment. If you change your mind let us know then we can make solid suggestions.

If you must go with a Sony receiver, I'd say got with their ES line of receivers. Speakerwise I think its best you audition different brands by going to different retailers to hear them out. The AV section of this forum has EXCELLENT info. I based my purchase of my receiver thru the many reviews they have.

i bought an Onkyo 706 to replace my Onkyo HTiB and im loving it.

what a world of difference from my hdmi NON audio receiver.

as far as speakers, klipish(however you spell it) is GREAT and polks are good too.
youre probaly going to get to that $2500 range rather quickly

and use www.monoprice.com for all your wiring needs.
dont let the retail stores rip you off

You don't need to stick to Sony. Denon, Onkyo and Pioneer also make good receivers and all have next gen decoding. The Eltax Liberty 3+ bookshelf speakers are very nice. So try out the whole Liberty range for your home theater.
