Default PS3 and 2.0 Audio Setup

Hi together!

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I wasn't able to find anything using the Search function.

I currently have my Playstation 3 connected to my Toshiba Regza and I'm not satisfied by the internal speakers. So I'm thinking of buying a Amplifier and 2 bookshelf speakers and connecting them to the PS3.

I don't want any 5.1 or 7.1 setup, because I'm not into surround sound that much. I just want a decent sound quality and also use the audio setup to listen to music.

So my idea now is buying the Yamaha RX-397 Receiver and 2 relatively cheap bookshelf speakers. On amazon I found the Sony SS-B3000 Bookshelf Speakers for only 90$ (a pair).

So am I right, that I can connect the RX-397 through the "AV MULTI OUT connector" to my PS3?

Any other comments on that setup? Should I switch to other speakers? Or is there a good (and cheap) 2.0 receiver that I can directly connect through an optical cable to the PS3 and will this give better results?

Sorry for my very basic questions, I don't have much knowledge about these setups and just want some decent sound for watching TV and listening to music.
