I thought Anchorman was pretty funny and Talladega Nights had it's moments... ("Dear, 8 pounds, 7 ounce, baby Jesus...") And his duet with Jack Black at the Oscars a few years back was hillarious. And for some reason I can't understand, I enjoyed Elf.

So what exactly is it about him that annoys so much? I'm open to discussion.
Except for Stranger than Fiction (2006) and Elf (2003).

He seems to have no restraint, taste, or sense of control. A comedian needs to seem out of control: without actually doing it. Ferrell crosses the line to parody: even when he does straight comedy.

I believe that’s his problem. Even Robin Williams, who has similar problems. Has been able to control himself more often than Will. Jack Black is another who has the same weakness.

Modern comedians mistake outrageous for funny. They think shocking leads to laughing. Will mistakes freak show for comedy. Gross out for laugh out; there is some relation between eww and haha. But Ferrell ramps it into the sky. And that is his failure: and will be for some time. He’ll still makes tons and money, in the bargain. And maybe that’s the plan.

Who knows?

Annoying and one-dimensional. Abbreviated film history below:

A Night at the Roxbury - played dumb goofy white guy
Old School - played dumb goofy white guy
Anchorman - played dumb goofy white guy
Bewitched - played dumb goofy white guy
Wedding Crashers - played dumb goofy white guy
Talladega Nights - played dumb goofy white guy
Blades of Glory - played dumb goofy white guy
Step Brothers - played dumb goofy white guy

...well, you get the idea.

And yes, I know that my signature contains a WF quote...I like it for the appropriateness to Blu-Ray, not for the actor.

A lot of people said the same thing about Adam Sandler until he did Punch Drunk Love. The funny thing is that in Punch Drunk Love he plays the same character just in the correct context. Will actually stepped out of his normal roles for Stranger Than Fiction and it was brilliant.

lmao did you ever stop to think gee this guy is just flat out a dumb goofy white guy..he doesnt need to play anything else because then it wouldnt be Will Ferrell. The day i see him in a "serious" role i wont help but laugh. The guy is a kid at heart and i think he plays his goofy white guy great. i wouldnt want him doin anything else

ANNOYING!

He and Adam Sandler need to do more serious roles like Steve Carrell and Jim Carrey have been doing.

he sucks in his comedies but was great in Stranger than Fiction

Same goes with the sandman and Robin Williams, the comedy sucks but the serious roles rule.

I like comedies, but not one with the typecast roles of Ferrell, Sandler, ETC.

Only typecast I like is Rogen.

I can't say I'm a Will fan but can say that the few movies of his that I saw I enjoyed. Like might be too strong of a word though. I didn't dislike them which is more than I can say for Adam Sandler movies. I thought there were a couple of funny things in Waterboy but found all the rest of his movies that I've watched to be forgetable.
I have nothing against Adam nor Will. They've both found niches for their comedy and it has done them well. Can't blame either one for making a dollar just like the rest of us want to do.
I do have to add that I watched the trailer for Land of the Lost and was rolling on the floor. I don't have huge expectations like most sane people but it could be worth 2 hours of life to watch once.

I've seen most of his films. He could be an excellent dramatic actor like he was in Stranger Than Fiction. He needs to make more dramas.
My top 5 favorite Will Ferrell movies:
1. Step Bothers (One of the funniest films I've ever seen)
2. Stranger Than Fiction
3. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
4. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
5. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
