Some of those prices are insanely low! Thank God, I want lossless audio but can't afford too much right now. I'll be selling my receiver if the distortion is comparable. My TV upscales to 1080p, so just having the passthrough is fine with me, as long as all signals can go through HDMI.

Thanks for the link!

That is a great price. An article I read before was saying that under $1,000 receivers that handle the advanced audio would not appear until 2008. It would be neat if they were able to bring this $599 model to market in time for the Christmas season. The $2,109 model looks nice.

I know the most expensive ones will come out first, but I had heard the HDMI 1.3 ones would be out this summer. So here's to hoping.

Also found stuff for HDMI 1.3a THX-certified receivers: http://www.gspr.com/onkyo/thxavr07.html

FINALLY! i've been waiting for this reciver. I'm totally picking it up as soon as it's available. Now if only Sony would issue out an Update for the ps3 in order to perform DTS HD, my system would be perfect.

Same here, man. I'm got my receiver in January, but I'll sell it for one of these, probably the THX Select2 if someone will take my current receiver for a good price.

When you're putting a home theater together, there's no such thing as too many questions. Dolby TRUEHD, DTSHD-MA, and PCM are all uncompressed audio.

The Sony you're looking at, from what I see on their web page, does not decode the Dolby and DTS uncompressed audio, but it will do PCM. Not all movies come with a PCM audio solution, so for the ones (like Fox titles) that come w/ DTSHD-MA, you won't get the lossless audio there. I don't know if it's got HDMI 1.3a, either. You'll have to ask an owner about that. Onkyo is a very reputable brand, and the THX-certified receivers mean that you will have a very clear audio reproduction from the receiver. The total harmonic distortion is something to look at, as lower is better.

These are some of the first receivers, if not the first, that will decode DTSHD-MA, so that's why they have a leg up with me.

of course, he can have the player do the decoding for the advanced audio tracks and then output them as pcm

Except no player currently decodes DTS-MA. For the ultimate in future proof a receiver with HDMI 1.3 is the way to go. Other wise for the money you will have to spend on a new BD player that can decode it you could have gotten a new receiver.

Default Onkyo to Bow First DTS-HD Master Audio-Capable Receiver

These two Onkyo receivers that decode Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD will soon be on the market. I am surprised how cheap these prices are, looks like a bargain. The TX-SR605 is coming out this month in May for a list price of $599. This fall the THX Ultra 2 certified TX-SR805 is being released with a list price of only $1099. That is a good deal for a THX Ultra 2 certified product.

The last round of Onkyo receivers had some serious HDMI issues. That was the main reason for me getting my Denon. I hope they fixed the problems.
