Default problem w/DTS-HD master on receiver UPDATE: fixed

Hello,
I'm new to this forum and am looking for some help regarding subject.
I'm running a PS3 using an optical digital audio output to an older Pioneer Elite VSX-24TX reciever for my surround system.
I've got my PS3 audio output set to bitstream (not pcm).
My reciever is capable of showing me graphically if I am: A) getting a digital signal, B) whether its AC3 or DTS, C) which of the surround channels are being output, & D) if the output is in dolby digital (5.1) or dolby pro-logic (2 channel).
When I play a movie (ie: kingdom of heaven or league of extraordinary gentlemen) that uses the DTS-HD lossless audio format my reciever is showing its getting a digital signal, however, its only putting out in pro-logic mode (2 channel).
When I play a movie (ie: superman returns, evolution) that uses either "DD AC3 5.1" or "LPCM 5.1" my reciever shows I'm getting digital signal, AC3, all channels are being output, and I'm getting dolby-digital 5.1 (5 channels). This is the way a normal DVD would output on my system (non-blu-ray).
Can anyone explain to me why I would not be getting 5.1 channels while playing a blu-ray with the DTS-HD lossless audio format?
Any recommendations or possible workarounds that anyone could provide would really be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kurt

while not an expert, here is my go of it...

the player is decoding the codec internally and then outputting the sound as pcm. however, optical/coax can not accept a pcm 5.1 signal. it can only accept a 2 channel signal. you can only take a pcm 5.1 signal over hdmi. so, you need a new receiver or need to play a lossy codec.

are you saying that although I have my blu-ray player set to output audio to "bitstream" thru optical cable that the player is somehow outputting to "PCM" instead of the bitstream I have it set at?

That doesnt make sense to me. Why do the DD AC3 & LCPM formats send the signal out in 5.1 then?

Never mind folks. I got this figured out. For some reason I hadnt selected "DTS" in the audio settings of my PS3. Now all works as it should. thanks for those who took the time to respond.
