Most likely the intergreity of the filesystem went bah, The ps3 is rebuilding the database, I wouldn't be too worried unless it happens more often..

If this becomes a weekly or daily issue you might consider replacing the hard drive... oh wait am I actually allowed to help you?

I would also suggest not turning the ps3 off while its writing data and to follow proper shut down procedures..

yeah any help will do, thanks. somebody just recommended him to me thats all. sometimes the internet freezes the PS3 andi have to manually turn it off by pushing power on the actual console but thats the only thing ive done that might be a problem. its only done this twice now.

Sorry for not replying back, that comment was just poking fun I didn't mean it anything but humour way, back to subject these things happen sometimes files get reorganized or album tags get changed etc..

This is the ps3 rebuilding the file system/database and should not be something of alarm unless it happens often.

Recomendation still remains the same to ensure proper shut down procedures are followed when shutting the ps3 off.

I do hope the best for you, and if you decided to buy a new hard drive I recommend reading and following either the official playstation resource which you can find in the support section of www.us.playstation.com or less recomended following the guide found as a sticky on this forum of course the least recommended is to try to wing it, which you should not attempt without some guidance.

Best of wishes

Don't worry man, I can assist you. Also your hard drive is OK!

Funny thing is that the same thing happened to me, lol! I know, its weird but I seem to have all the problems with the PS3 (except for YLOD, thank goodness).

So basically after it stated that it was rebuilding the database, it stated that it failed, right? I had this issue when I was trying to use a previous backup when I was getting a trophy error. What I ended up doing was having format the hard drive completely.

After I did that the only thing that I could work from my backups was my Saved Game files. So if you have any backups on USBs, it seems like you will need to be using those and redownloading/installing the games from the PSN.

Summary:
Backup your Saved Games onto a USB drive individually, not the Backup function and format your hard drive and copy them over.

thats the weird thing. it never said it failed. underneath the sentence saing that it will be rebuilt was an OK icon. i hit x cause i had no other option nd then it strted up like normal. should i look into getting a flash drive to back it up?

I'm glad it worked for you while it failed for me!

If it didn't fail then I'd continue to act like nothing happened. Keep in mind that the hard drive in your PS3 is made by Seagate and they make excellent hard drives.

Though its never a bad idea to upgrade your hard drive. If you want some suggestions, just ask as everyone will be willing to help.

Are they easy to switch out?! Oh boy, you are in luck!

You basically remove 1 screw, pull out the hard drive and slide the new one in!

EDIT: Heres a link to a whole thread dedicated to replacing your hard drive.

You are fine. It is like defragging your hard drive. My 60GB has done it as well. The only annoying thing is it reset the download dates on all my videos! Now my sort by date is useless.

As for a new HDD I opted for the WD Scorpio Black 320GB 7200RPM SATA3.0 with 16MB cache. $89.99
