Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow in Iron Man 2?! - Blu-ray Forum

The original news about Blunt taking the role first hit in January, but then at the end of Janaury we reported that Fox had forced her, due to a contract signed for The Devil Wears Prada, to give up Iron Man 2 to take on Gulliver's Travels instead. So if Blunt couldn't make her schedule work, who would they get instead? Presumably someone else just as talented, right? Nope, they're looking at Scarlett Johansson!

EW claims that, "Marvel will not confirm, but sources around Hollywood say Johansson has indeed met with the filmmakers and is interested." Here's the thing about Johansson - when she first starred in Lost in Translation, I thought she was fantastic. But then came In Good Company, the first of her flops. She wasn't bad in The Prestige, but she wasn't good either. And with The Spirit and now He's Just Not That Into You, I've come to hate her. She's only about the sex appeal, not about the performance. And it's annoying seeing her try to act in bad roles when all that anyone cares about it is how much cleavage we get to see.

What I'm saying is that I think Johansson just needs the right kind of role to succeed in and those don't come that often. She was actually good in Woody Allen's last few movies, but that's because I think only he can get that kind of performance out of her. For the most part though, I'm not fond of her acting anymore. So with that said, I really do not want to see Scarlett Johansson in Iron Man 2 at all. Emily Blunt, on the other hand, is both an incredible actress and beautiful and would've been perfect. I really hope this rumor falls through and Blunt gets the role or it's handed off to someone just as capable.

I don't think it would be a good idea myself, but am willing to take a wait and see approach.

The last role I enjoyed Johansson in was when she was just a young teen in 'The Horse Whisperer'....way back in 98'.

"Why the second thoughts?" is what I'm wondering. They already have the star power for box office draw. Personally, I like the "going with your instincts" approach on casting. Stick with your original choice people!

Not that I have anything against Scarlett. She is an enjoyable actress.

Iron Man doesn't seem like the type of movie Scarlett is attracted to. She seems to prefer "Film Festival" type movies.

I haven't watched many movies with Scarlett Johansson in them, so I can't really comment on her acting. I have watched a lot of Eliza Dushku though and I think she would be good for the role. I wouldn't have any problem with them getting her for the role.

I'd rather see Dushku. That girl was built for action roles and I've seen her do every emotional extension that should be necessary for a comic book movie well before (Buffy and Angel). I haven't seen anything impressive out of Scarlett, ever. Also the girl could very believably look Russian, much more so than Scarlett.

i know lol im just playin...i dont know too much about the Iron Man universe so i don't really know much about the Black Widow character

She's just pure eye candy IMO. She can't act worth a crap, but she's hot. So, I guess good enough reason to put her in.

i disagree to an extent. Match Point and The Prestige she did well in. She's not always on though.

Yeah I did see it. I own it. I found Natalie Portman to be a much better actress and steal every scene she was in.
