Default Samsung BD-P1600

Hello everyone.
I'm a new member and a new user of Blu-ray and whole big TV thing.
So i got BD-P1600 yesterday (by sales man recomendation) and just realized that my unit was manufactured 01/31/09 (28 days ago).
Well one of the new futures on this player is Wireless connection to internet.
I have wireless and everything, BUT! TO connect you have to have SPECIAL only samsung antenna. ANd they havent come up with it yet. There are for TV but i dont know if they work with BD player.
Does anyone have any info on those things? Some suggestions.
Thanks guys!

Nice, it came out 2-4 days ago so people who have it are Rare. No information about the antenna. You'll also need a 1gb USB Drive for BDLive...

lol that's stupid, it should just do wireless from within the box like a wireless network on a laptop for example.

If it's anything like BD Live, don't expect to much from it. BD Live is a joke.

Angry BD-P1600 Issues

Add me to the list of frustrated Samsung BD-P1600 blue ray player owners. I make the purchase and I'm all excited to enjoy the wireless network feature only to find out that I don't own the Samsung wireless lan adapter that is necessary to make this work (sold separately). It states in the manual that the model number of the correct adapter is Model# WIS09ABGN. This must be the latest model for '09 and not available yet because I can't even google it and get any responses. You can find Model# WIS08BG2X available at just about any electronics store for about $50 (I'm going out on a limb here and guessing this is the '08 model). So my question is this: Does anybody know if the '08 model adapter will work or if we will have to wait for the '09 to come out?

Please help!!!

I got response from Samsung help, here it is.

The LAN adapter may not be release yet. This is a very new product that we do not have a lot of information on. The WIS08BG2X is for the TV's so it most likely will not work with the blue ray player. I would give it some time for the adapter to be released.

Default Another frustrated owner

Hello, I too, just purchased Samsung's P1600 believing I would be able to hook and play when i got home. No such luck. The adapter seems to be non-existent and the BBuy folks seem to be as frustrated as i am when i ask about it.
I have another problem with it and that is, the dvd (not blueray) continues to play but the sound cuts out for a couple seconds.? Anyone else have this issue. I have not tried another DVD (also not blueray) so I am not sure if it's a player issue or my disk.
Thanks for any help and or suggestions.

nice solution, yelling HARD WIRE IT!

Sometimes that's not always an option... I live in an apartment where I can't run cat-5 in the walls or I'll get kicked out faster than the wired connection!

I bought this over the 1500 solely for the reason that it was wifi... And the fact that Samsung released the player but hasn't released the dongle totally sucks and kind of pisses me off... It's not all bad though, other than that I really dig this player!

This is just a guess but since Sony are about to release wi fi players I bet Samsung just wanted to get theirs out first even though they dont have it all together yet.

You don't need the Samsung adapter. Some of these are less than $15.

Simple solution that I did. Get Zoom 4-in-1 wireless repeater for 49 bucks, configure as ethernet client to your wireless net and connect BD player to the zoom via cat5. You are good to go...

Unfortunately there are not likely many folks expiriencing this yet besides yourself for a few resons;

1.You are an early adopter of a BR player that brand new on the market.

2.atm only 1 brick and mortar retailer is even stocking it, it's so new.

3. Not many people are going to pay $300 for an entry level player and are either waiting for the BD-P3600/4600's to ship next month, or waiting a couple of months until the price likely go down to $199-249 when the Net retailers like Amazon start selling it.Never the less, you are having a problem that other players in the past have been know to sometimes have.

BIf you can, bring it back and exchange it for another. If the new unit does the same thing, then it's likely an issue that Samsung will hopefully fix with a firmware update. If it plays the dvds without dropping sound, then at least you know your first unit likely had an issue.
Good Luck.

Hi all - joining this thread from the Sharp Aquos BD-HP20U thread. My 1-yr old Sharp kept spitting my BD discs ("incompatable disc") and nothing I've tried had resolved the issue. Sharp customer service was non-existent. I stopped in at BestBuy today and the salesguy was pretty knowlegable about the new Samsungs even though he said they just got them in. He did tell me up front that I would need the wireless adapter thingy (dongle). They had another Samsung with wireless (no dongle needed) but it doesn't do Netflix and was $100 more, and that was one of my criteria for buying. The only other machine that will do Netflix (that they had) was the LG and it was quite a bit more than the Samsung and no wireless option at all. The dongle is available for purchase on their (Samsung) website for $82 but it's backordered 4 weeks... guess I'll go with the mail Netflix movies for now
So far I've played Austrailia and Appaloosa with no issues - haven't tried a regular DVD yet.

Cheers from SE Michigander who still has a job (we're gettin pretty scarce)!

Can you chose Bitstream Audophile in the audio setup if you use a optical connection it says that Bitstream RE Encode is recommened for optical but its a lower audio quality. It reencodes the audio to dts bitsream. I like the Bitstream Audophile better than the bitream reencode but it says reencode is recommened if you dont have hdmi audio receiver

My old receiver is a dts enabled receiver and I used Bitstream Audiophile with optical before upgrading the receiver. It sounded pretty darn good but there were other issues with the receiver so I got a new one.
