Default JJ Abrams talks Cloverfield 2!

http://www.horror-movies.ca/horror_14442.html

Quote:
It has been forever since we have heard a thing about Cloverfield 2 and at WonderCon JJ Abrams spilled the beans on Cloverfield 2. As much as we all thought the idea was dead JJ Abrams still firmly believes he can cash in with a pointless sequel. In a recent interview he revealed;

“We’re actually working on an idea right now,” Abrams told the packed crowd. “The key obviously at doing any kind of sequel, certainly this film included, is that it better not be a business decision. If you’re going to do something, it should be because you’re really inspired to do it.

It doesn’t really have to mean anything, doesn’t mean it will work, but it means we did it because we cared, not because we thought we could get the bucks. We have an idea that we thought was pretty cool that we’re playing with, which means there will be something that’s connected to ‘Cloverfield,’ but I hope it happens sooner than later because the idea is pretty sweet.”

Cloverfield was genius. Admittedly it made alot of people want to puke and was not exactly earth shatteringly awesome but it was a good movie with some unique elements. Assuming it did not make you sea sick trying to watch it. The genius of Cloverfield was its marketing and its tiny budget. A studio film which was made for nickels and marketed virally that exploded. Cloverfield 2 may have a cool story and great ideas but it will NOT have the magic of the first one. No way... no how.
please keep the cloverfield hate out of this thread. its tiresome

read that earlier, glad to see he's only willing to do it if there's a great story to be told and not just to make studios money. i have to say i originally thought the whole cloverfield shaky cam movie was going to be terrible and dumb but i saw it and actually really liked it. i personally think this story only needs 1 movie, but i'm definitely interested in seeing where the 2nd one would go..

I agree totally. I dunno why people were so hard with this movie. I loved this movie imensely. A sequel would be great if they could tie up lose ends and done right.

yeah this is one of those movie's where i'm totally ok if they don't make a sequel. but since they've talked about it for so long, i'm curious how they can bring a 2nd outing to us

I liked the first one a whole lot, hope they can capture the spirit of it in a sequel.

I loved the first one. If the 2nd is going to be done then it needs to have the shakey cam. Yeah I said it.

I really like the first, and have been wondering when the hell the 2nd was coming. Obviously it's going to be awhile.

I think a movie about one of the Nat. Guard units would be kind of cool. Show them from the call up and their first briefings(which probably wouldn't include a giant monster), to actually arriving in the city and finding out it's not a natural disaster or terrorist attack but a 500' monster.

But focus on one or 2 people. And those people are also the ones that found the camera.

I didn't read anything in this thread, but I hope that all J.J. Abrams had to say was, "There will not be a Cloverfield 2."

I will see the sequel if/when it comes out. Thought the first movie was entertaining and definitely sounds and looks good on blu. Hopefully they take their time and develop a good idea and not rush something out.

I first saw Cloverfield when I imported the Blu-ray from the US, and I loved it, More so than I thought I would!

I could definitely go for a sequel... Something involving what was going on behind closed doors on Capitol Hill or in the Pentagon during the Cloverfield Incident... and maybe another monster showing up in Washington or the west coast.

I want to see the monster go to Tokyo, only to be greeted by Godzilla and King Kong and all the giant monsters from Rampage.

I really enjoyed this film, and hope that JJ Abrams sticks to the plan to making a sequal they want to make, not making a sequal soley for the money. As far as the whole "shaky-cam" thing goes, I don't think they need to use the same presentation for the follow-up film, but use the same premise: first person POV. Whether it's an imbedded reporter (news coptor would be an interesting POV), or a military film crew w/"professional grade" equipment, we need to see the movie from the eyes of someone experiencing the action for themselves. Done right, this could be a really fun franchise for fans of the genre.

Just a random fan suggestion that will likely go unheeded, if I was to do this movie I would:

Make it from the military point of view using entirely a soldier's helmet mounted camera.

I heard a rumor about that being the sequel.

I hope it's a big budget action flick from the Armed Forces perspective.
