The L Word Series Finale.... so how did Jenny die? - Blu-ray Forum

So they spent the entire sixth season giving almost every main character a motive to kill Jenny, only to leave us to draw our own conclusions about how she actually died!

Opinions on this ending? The entire sixth season?

I guess I kind of get it. I mean in the series opener... Jenny was used as the vehicle to get us all into this little lesbian enclave.... so perhaps it was fitting that Jenny dies with the series ending. Not to mention what a conniving little wench Jenny turned into over the years.

But why spend an entire season developing so many motives for Jenny's murder, and then leave us with the possiblity that she MAY have died accidentally.... or she MAY have been murdered.... but we won't tell by who?

I think she and Bette got into an arguement on the balcony and Jenny accidentally went over the rail.

How do you think she died?

There have been 6 seasons?

Goddamn, I only have the first {on DVD} and I haven't had a chance to check anything out beyond that.

Here's hoping for a Blu-release of all the seasons.

Turned into? She started out that way from the first few episodes!

Sorry, didn't finish past season two when I deployed and never got Showtime again.

My wife and I were never really interested in picking it back up.

We were more into Six Feet Under at the time.

Nah.... at first she was just a little confused and a little emo. Later she became quite crazy and evil.

I personally think it was a group effort. They probably drew straws to determine who would do the actual deed but had everyone lined up to alibi eachother.

Jenny dies?!

Damn... I love Mia Kirshner.

Anyhow, I never followed the L-word beyond season 2 (actually, I may have lost interest midway through season 2). Like (I suspect) many red-blooded heterosexual men that know of and/or watched this show, were drawn to it by the voyeuristic ideal that was presented by this program. The promise of seeing beautiful and sexy lesbians in the act, and for me also the fact that Mia was in it (one of Canada's finest actresses).

I never expected to catch more than a few episodes, but I found myself really enjoying the first season. It was really well written and acted. The characters were developing nicely and the stories behind them felt genuine. I felt as though the first season was about real people, in real relationships, exploring real trials and tribulations and the lewd fascinations that originally brought this show to my attention were quickly disappated. Like most shows that I really grow to like, it was the relationships and bonds between characters that really kept bringing me back every week.

I don't remember many of the characters names now, but I found myself rooting for Bette and her life-partner's quest to have a child, and ultimately being disappoined in Bette's betrayal when she cheated with the contractor at her gallery. I remember hating the Italian restaurant owner. Some of the better subplots for me was the Tennis player's eventual outing to the media and her parents and how she dealt with it, and Bette's relationship with her (half?) sister.

Then season 2 came along and it really felt like it became a soap opera, and I quickly lost interest in the show. It's sad to hear how far Jenny had fallen, from the sounds of it, and I find myself kinda thankful I missed out on the rest of the series. But, I wanted to say... Season One of the "L-Word" was an amazing bit of television.

The show did go through many changes. In the beginning Bette and Tina were really the only "upscale" characters on the show... and as the show progressed many characters became more successful in life. Jenny ended up writing a novel that got turned into a movie that she got to direct. Shane ended up as a high paid hair dresser to the stars. Alice became a social commentator on a "The View" type show, but she got fired because they really only wanted her to do "funny gay" and outing famous people type things, and she got too serious about homophobia one day.

In season three..... the tennis player (I hate I can't remember her character name right now) got breast cancer and died. Last season they did a great story line about Tasha. Tasha came along at the end of season four as a love interest for Alice. She was a decorated soldier who had recently came home from Iraq, only to be kicked out of the army that she truly loved under "don't tell, don't ask." They did a great job of showing how unjust the situation was, through the very accurate protrayal of the soldier going through it, without becoming preachy about it.

Bette and Tina broke up and got back together a couple of times. During one break up Bette dated a deaf artist that was played by Marlie Maitlin, and Tina actually dated a man. But in the end..... their love conquered and they got back together and Bette seemed to have dealt with her infidelity demons. Bette was even faithful when her college roommate whom she once had a HUGE crush on (played by a stunning Elizabeth Berkley) made a pass at her.

Cybil Shepherd was brought in a season or two back as well. She played the Dean at the University where Bette was head of the art department. She did a great job of portraying an older woman coming to grips with her sexuality at such a late stage in life.

I loved The L Word. Sure it was over the top sometimes, especially with Jenny's character; but they also did a great job of dealing with so many women's issues and gay issues. I just wish they hadn't done this whole "who shot J.R." type thing with the whole last season... only to leave that story line incomplete for eternity.

Honestly, after watching it last night, the fact that they didn't tell how she died really annoyed me. Like you said, the whole season up to last night was giving everyone motives. But, from what I took from it, Bette was the one to do her in. If you watched the closing credits, when Bette, Tina, and Jenny were walking away, Jenny was staring at Bette the entire time. I don't know, maybe I am crazy. Simply put, Bette threatened her and she had to do what was necessary.
