Kuro Elite & Film Grain??

I have the Pioneer Kuro Elite Pro-151FD & Sony S550.

MY QUESTION: Why does my display exhibit little or no Grain(I'm glad) on BD'S??????

For example, "The French Connection" on my DLP looks horrendous, tons of unwatchable heavy grain, but on my Kuro there is only slight grain in the dark sequences.

No, I do not use any kind of DNR. In fact all BD'S look superb on the Kuro.

Are you sure that you're not confusing grain with noise? Try a really grainy BD release, e.g. The Third Man (Criterion).

Thanks guy, "The French Connection" is one of the worst BD's I have seen, grain, noise on my DLP, but on the Kuro Elite very little is evident.

I read reviews or comments about grain problem, but I was puzzled because my Kuro displays a clean, super sharp picture. Is the Pioneer Kuro Elite that good.

Weird. I just watched it today on my 5020 and there was still a fair amount of grain, although the color timing Friedkin did on it does 'smooth out' some of the grain.

How high is the sharpness on your DLP? I think the Kuro comes out of the box pretty well calibrated, where your DLP would probably need more adjusting. Have you done any type of calibration?

I have sharpness at 0 on my DLP, same with the Kuro. In a very grainey BD, if I look at my Kuro up close(inches) I can see some grain, but at a normal viewing distance none is evident.

That may be true, but if you aren't seeing grain during The French Connection at normal viewing distances something is very, very wrong with your settings.
