Default I now see film grain

I upgraded my projector from my Sony HS51 720p to the new Panasonic AE2000 1080p. I can now see film grain on movies like the remastered Fifth Element. However I see a LOT more detail. I can notice the sweat and facial features alot more, as well as the nicer backgrounds. I will watch Ratatouille next.

1080p is more Precise for the same screen size, so it's normal....

That's one of the reasons I'm not in a hurry to jump to 1080p. One thing I don't like about my 768p (1366x768) TV that accepts 1080i is that I can see the jaggies on the text from over 10 feet away. The picture looks great from that distance, but text angles... very bothersome for me.

I should point out, I understand I'm seeing more of the original print. I will gladly have that, if I have more detail.

1080P on a native screen would actually improve that.

I actually found that going from a 32" 1366x768 TV to a 46" 1920x1080 has resulted in a less grainy picture. I think that perhaps the 768 TV's downsizing algorithm was sharpening at the same time, causing both slight jaggies and increased graininess. The 1080 picture is just better in every possible way, I say go for it if you're considering the upgrade.

I really don't like grain either, but it does vary from film to film.

If you can see artifacts at that distance it must be poor video processing. 1080p is definitely the way forwards with Blu-ray IMHO. Chicken Little or Ratatouille at 1080p24 are quite remarkable.

The more detail you flesh out, the more grain you will notice.
There is no getting around that.

If you do anything to soften the grain, you also soften the detail.

I wish the people at Warner would wake up and realize this.

I have to agree, I'm going to watch Oceans 13 again but I have to say, I was a leeeetle dissapointed in the picture.

I remember it having a very cinematic feel but I found a lot of the big cityscapes to lack a certain... character/detail to them?
e.g. I noticed the sky to look somewhat washed out. Honestly I like the detail and if it means coming with grain, then so be it. Infact often times, it works well and of course brings us closer to the directors intent.

Ratatouille wont have any grain

Watching Rescue Dawn last night it was grain and noise free with tons of detail..encoded at 34MBPS in AVC .

Disappointment with the PQ is so often the reaction to Warner high def releases.

I shut that one off very quickly for reasons unrelated to PQ.

Warner's problem is encoding to the lowest common denominator.

Well, Ratatouille isn't film based so you shouldn't see any.
