Default POTC Curse of...

So after reading a million posts on here I decided to join... I hate to say it but I have to complain about something. No, i don't care about the inserts or anything like that. I own the first gen Sony BDP. My problem is that when I put in the first POTC movie. It takes a total of about 7 minutes to get to the point where I can play the move... Is anyone else having this problem? That includes the 5 movie previews that I can't skip through.

Also, when I finally get to the movie the options menue is very slow to come up and the selection process is lacking.

The last thing I noticed is that the disc will not let me choose the PCM. audio option. That part might be because I don't have the DVI 1.3...but I have at least been able to select it in the past. Is anyone else having these problems or can explain why I might be having them?

Sorry to complain beacause I think BR is great and the PQ of the POTC CBP is amazing otherwise. I figured if anyone could give me any info on why these issues are occuring, it would be on here.

Thanks

yeah, that sucks. i heard that's a problem as well (you can fast-foward through the previews though right?). Oh well, at least I'm a sucker for Disney movies.

From what I have read - slow access time and slow menu problems - your not the only one. I am not sure tho if a firmware update will fix that.

Have you updated your BD player to the latest available firmware?

Welcome to the boards btw

Thanks,

Yeah I can fast forward through them, just not skip them completely. I have updated the firmwhere twice since i bought the player. That is the disapointing part of it. Any ideas on not being able to even slect the PCM sound? Thanks for the welcome.

I updated my Sony BDP firmware to 1.60 right before I dropped the POTC disc in last night. It worked, but it took a LONG time to load and transfer from previews to opening menu (skull jibberish). Also, I was able to select and enjoy the PCM audio. Both visuals and audio were pretty darn good.

How did you recieve the 1.60 download? I see that it's available on sony.com but after downloading it to my pc I was unable to copy it to DVD-R with Nero 6.6? In addition, I spoke to Sony Customer Service/Support (which is a joke if you can get anyone that knows anything or speaks understandable english) to find out why I'm not able to burn version 1.60. They advised that this edition is a "technical error" and should not be on the site for download, that they would send to me version 1.55. I again tried to download 1.55 from sonystyle.com and it's not accessible, so I have to wait for the disc that takes 7-10 days to get here. I'm so frustrated with Sony!!

Sony has recognized this issue (slow loading / slow graphic performance in BD-J titles). At least there was a news release from Sony in Japan that they recognizes this and will release a firmware update around 6/E.

Thats weird. Several people have had great success with this update. I downloaded it from the sony page and burned it to a DVD -R with Nero. Note that you have to burn it specifically as an DVD image. Look through the last page of the 'Blu-ray Forum > Hardware > Blu-ray Players > The Sony BDP-S1 Review Thread' for a long discussion on this. Good luck.

I have the same player and though slow to start up, I was able to select the PCM audio option just fine. BTW am I the only one that thinks the talking skull menu is amazing?

Anyway, make sure you have version 1.6 Firmware (released a few days ago) because it is critical for playing Java heavy discs like this.

You should be able to. I have Dead Mans Chest and it was tricky. On DMC you have to choose the audio then move right select if you want subtitles then move right again and thers an x thats how it is on DMC. Also during the movie press the display button and see if it says PCM or DD 5.1

The lateest update came out only a few days ago? The last time I updated was least a month ago. I got the pleyed a day or two before it was to be let out of the stores. I updated 2 times. It this one that just came out the third?

Pirates 1 and 2 do look amazing though.. I can honestly say after the whatever it take to load it is well worth the coin.

well you didn't read enough cus there have been several posts about Sony BDP-1 slowly loading and several many other players firmware upgrade fix threads all saying how you need to upgrade the players, and the disc itself comes with an insert takking about this too.
