Default Issue: Onkyo receiver shutting off randomly

Any ideas?

Of course the book says, unplug and call Onkyo...

Basically randomly it just shuts off and the red power light blinks.

I am thinking of pulling it appart and seeing if there is dust or anything like that causing the issue.

The receiver is ice cold, not like it is overheating.

Help out...WIFE will kill me if I buy another one since I just bought the 5020.

I'd call them. Don't open up the unit as it may void your warranty. As far the dust issue you speak of...that's highly unlikely on a new unit.

I know it's a pain the have to wait, but I'd call them first before doing anything else.

Good luck!

John

I don't mean to be a bearer of bad news (although I am, I guess?) but from some of the other forums I have read about this when the heat issue has been ruled out....is they seem to think it is a bad circuit issue and the protection indicator will activate and shut off the Onkyo. I'd call them and do what John said, don't open the thing! Good luck and let us know what happens.

Sounds like the amp's output is shorted. Check for shorted speaker wires (or any wire) or wrong polarity. Do you have it connected to a power conditioner? Maybe try plugging it into a dedicated outlet if so.

Don't tear it apart, though you'll void the warranty.
