Default Blu and DVD combos - good or bad move?

What do you think of these forthcoming Blu-ray/DVD combo releases coming out? Is it a good or bad move? Studios think it will make more people buy Blus.

Bolt is even coming out in a 3 pack, Blu/DVD/Digital copy. Crazy.

It's unnecessary but whatever, if it makes people feel like they're getting their money worth then go for it. I only care about the Blu-ray format.

I don't care either one. But if it's definitely causing the price of the BD to be higher because they're including the DVD disc, then they can just leave it out. They can surely do away with the digital copy disc and just provide a code to use strictly through iTunes.

I like the idea. That was one of the things I liked about HD dvd. Most of my friends do not have bluray players yet so I can loan them a regular dvd copy or if I want to watch the movie in my bedroom I don't need to by a bluray player for the bedroom.

The only reason I wouldn't mind the idea is it would give me more DVDs to hock to family and friends for more money to buy stuff and blu-rays.

How is it unnecessary? I mean sure, it's useless to us converted, but for people who don't have a Blu-Ray player yet but plan on getting one, it's a great thing.

Because to me the whole point of going hidef is to ditch DVD so including the DVD is like encouraging people to not switch. I want DVD to die already so Blu-ray price can go down.

Look do I still like DVD? No. However like VHS before it, the majority of people still use it AND we are in a recession. Therefore the transition to blu-ray must be done slowly or a lot of people will be pissed off. I know someone else who's more eloquent can explain it a lot better than I can.

I like the idea...gives people more of a reason to purchase the Blu-ray version.

I dont mind it as long as the it is not like the hd-dvd and on the same disc just flipped. It is just me and my wife, no kids with a ps3 in the living and bedroom and laptop has a bd drive for travel, so the dvds will probably never get used. But if you have kids and they have a tv in the room or just in cars w/ dvd players I think it is great idea. Plus the studio makes more money as they wont be doing the $10 coupon or rebate to upgrade from dvd to blu-ray.

As far as the dvd and digital copy with the blu-ray that doesn't make sense. I used the digital copy of wall-e and it is huge, so I have not done the dark knight one. If you get the dvd then just get a dvd ripper and it will take up alot less space. I am not condoning ripping dvds you don't own just the ones you own

That would only be true if it were the only release available.

Anyways - I don't care either way, but I would rather have a DVD instead of a "digital copy", which to me was completely useless. At least with a DVD, I can loan it out or make copies.

Its all about selling more blu-rays and doing away with that 'other' format....

Studios may be testing the sales with these as well.

I personally don't care because they are giving them away for free with the blu-ray, so I just give them away myself.

I think it is a great idea. The Blu for the home, the DVD for the roadtrip with the kids. Or, in my case, grandkids. Also, I have a rule Re: my home theater. No one watches anything without me or Angel (wife) present. So when the grandkids visit, they have their own tv and dvd player in another room and they can watch the DVD version. The Blu-ray they can watch WITH me in the movie room.
