Talking Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Review Thread (Use Spoiler Tags)

This sounds beyond ridiculous and yet very funny, I just might have to see it!

Seth Grahame-Smith's surprise hit from Quirk Books, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, may have been launched as something of a lark, but that hasn't stopped its author from landing a major deal. Publisher's Weekly reports that Grand Central Press editor Ben Greenberg has just inked a two-book deal with Grahame-Smith for a rumored $575,000; Grahame-Smith's first book for GCP, which currently has no pub date, will be Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Grahame-Smith has, up until this point, written tongue-in-cheek pop culture titles for Quirk such as The Big Book of Porn: A Penetrating Look at the World of Dirty Movies and How to Survive a Horror Movie. But after the unexpected success of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies--which came on assignment from Quirk's editorial director, Jason Rekulak--he has been lifted into another literary stratosphere. (Quirk currently has more than120,000 copies in print of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, after publishing the book on April 1.)

The proposal for Grahame-Smith's new book sold at auction Wednesday and the story is a loose sketch of Lincoln's life with one twist--honest Abe is the world's most skilled vampire hunter. Claudia Ballard at William Morris handled the deal, which was for North American rights. We also hear a film proposal has already started circulating and that William Morris is also handling film rights.

Not a fan of Dracula then I guess? I mean Van Hellsing is not exactly real either.

JCVH is actually good. For a b-movie with a low-budget and random musical scene and a lesbian-approving Jesus that kicks vamp ass with his trusty side-kick.

Arrow Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Hey,

Yes the title is based on This. Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov are teaming up to produce the adaptation. Both men also responsible for 9.

Here is more:

Quote:
Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov, who together produced the animated film 9, are teaming up again to produce what could be a far more outrageous project: they’ll shepherd an adaption of the novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith, author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

Screen Daily reports the deal, but doesn’t have much additional detail. Grahame-Smith will adapt the screenplay from his own novel. Interesting choice, as when an author adapts his own work for the screen there’s always a chance that he won’t be able to get any distance from the material. That can make paring down the text a problematic enterprise. Then again, who better to get inside the material than the creator?

Will either Burton or Bekmambetov direct? Unlikely; expect to hear news on a hire in the coming months.

Here’s the Publisher’s Weekly blurb recapping the book:

Seth Grahame-Smith inserts a grandiose and gratuitous struggle with vampires into Abraham Lincoln’s life. Lincoln learns at an early age that his mother was killed by a supernatural predator. This provokes his bloody but curiously undocumented lifelong vendetta against vampires and their slave-owning allies. The author’s decision to reduce slavery to a mere contrivance of the vampires is unfortunate bordering on repellent, but at least it does distract the reader from the central question of why the president never saw fit to inform the public of the supernatural menace.

A promo trailer for the novel just hit earlier this week, and is pretty entertaining. Don’t expect it looks anything like what we can expect to see from the Burton/Bekmambetov combo, but it does have sharp teeth and some 19th-century bullet time, for what it’s worth.
Promo Trailer for the Book.

This is awesome news.

Enjoy.

That article said he probably will not direct; which is fine. He has been making too many adaptations lately. I want more originals.

That video was pretty cool. Maybe Liam Neeson will play this version of Lincoln

I know about that. But in case you didn't know producers can have more power than Directors depending on who is involved with the project.

9 had potentials but ended up okay.

Good Suggestion on Liam after all he is every where. I like that the video had John Wilkes Booth as the vampire and Lincoln just pulled a matrix on him.

Arrow Tim Burton & Timur Bekmambetov Adapting Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

From the writer of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies!

Source:ComingSoon

Quote:
From the author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies comes the true history of our sixteenth US president - Seth Grahame-Smith's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Not only did this wonderful new book hit shelves today, but Deadline is reporting that co-producers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov will be developing an adaption of Grahame-Smith's new novel. His story kicks off with the revelation that Lincoln's mother was killed by a supernatural creature, which fueled his passion to crush vampires and their slave-owning helpers. The book depicts the 16th US president as an axe-throwing highly trained vampire killer!

Burton and Bekmambetov, who teamed up to produce another dark vision of the world with Shane Acker's 9, bought the rights with their own money and haven't involved any studios yet. This is such a cool idea and I'm totally down for this. I love the concepts that Seth Grahame-Smith is coming up with - this guy is going to break out huge once one of these movies actually gets made. Let's hope Burton and Bekmambetov find a writer and a director who can start working on this right away - the sooner the better! There's also a promo video of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter that the publisher made for the book which you can see below.

Default Timur Bekmambetov on Wanted 2, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter AND MORE!!!

Source: Empire

Quote:
Timur Bekmambetov has been linked to so many different projects we've run out of fingers to count them on. To clear things up in camp Bekmambetov, we had a chat with him about each one of them, and this is what we discovered.

Are you ready? Then we'll begin.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. "That one I’m prepping to direct myself. It is not a comedy at all – it is a very entertaining, epic history lesson for millions and millions of teenagers. If you remember Nightwatch, it is maybe in the vein of that kind of movie."

"We are keeping the traditional look of Lincoln – the big hat and the beard. He has to be historically correct, but with a few special weapons. There is only one book, but there will be many opportunities to develop and explore this world if we get to do sequels. I hope we will start this winter. We are shooting in America."

Wanted 2. "We are discussing Wanted 2 every month. We are working on it now, but I think it will be after Lincoln because James (McAvoy) is working on the X-Men: First Class… It’s why I decided to develop Lincoln without a studio, to keep control. It’s a big movie but independent too."

20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. "Yes, it is happening. We are in development with a writer and Ridley Scott’s people. It’s early in development. I would like to direct myself – it’s a great tale that I love from my childhood. It will be a modernised version of the famous book."

Moby Dick. "I’ve developed the whole world, but we’re still working on the script. To fight a supernatural creature, you need people with supernatural abilities. It’s the same story but with a different take, much more mystical. The whalers are not ordinary people, and yes, the whale will be done digitally."

Red Asphalt. "I am working on that with Lionsgate. It’s a movie about drunk driving… in 3D! 3D is the only way to recreate what you feel when you drink and drive."

"It’s my original idea – I wrote the treatment. Everyone drinks and drives once, and I want to make a horror movie about it. It’s one big car chase. People will feel what it’s like when you’re drunk and driving, and it’s really scary. The world is not exactly the same."

The Knights Templar. "That is a project I am developing with Universal. I wrote the treatment but it’s not something I am doing in the near future. It’s a great story, but… It’s why I’m producing, because there are too many stories. I have to give them to other people sometimes.

Twilight Watch*. "I hope it happens. It’s like first love – we created this world and now I’m watching the Twilight movies, I feel like we missed something by not doing Twilight Watch. Because there are a lot of ideas in those films that we were going to use. But we didn’t finish the story. It would be good to get around to it one day. "

The Last Witchhunter. "I am not working on that one. It was in discussion but is not happening now."

Black Lightning."We are talking with Universal about producing an English-language remake, but I am not directing it."

So that's that, straight from the horse's mouth. Thoughts? Queries? Questions? What are you most excited about -- and what would you like to see in cinemas first? Would you even want to see another Wanted? Let us know below.

*That's the sequel to Night Watch and Day Watch, not anything to do with the sparkly vampires.
