Are the original three, the unaltered "Special Edition" versions available on DVD? I.e., the ones without Greedo shooting first, the extra Cloud City scenes, and the whole CGI Sarlacc, and ESPECIALLY without Hayden Christensen at the end of RotJ?

Is this it? http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Tril...9476872&sr=1-1 Separately, they come in 2 Disc Editions with both the altered and unaltered editions. Last edited by Blu-Curry; 04-11-2009 at 07:10 PM. |

Yes. They're available in the 2-Disc versions that came out a few years ago.
And IIRC they just recently got re-released when Clone Wars came to DVD/BLU. It should be noted that the Original Cuts are Non-Anamorphic Ports from the old Laserdiscs. |

Lucas finally consented to releasing the original versions of the classic trilogy as "bonus" features when they were reissued on dvd. Unfortunately he crippled them purposely by not releasing them as anamorphic widescreen. The following site has tons of information about this topic and some efforts to derive a better looking transfer of the original versions on dvd.

I just finished watching all my Star Wars movies during my spring break. Just out of curiousity, other than the Han vs. Greedo shot and the Anakin Skywalker at the end of ROTJ, why are the other unaltered scenes that great? I personally like the new CGI scenes as it adds to the presentation.
eg. In A New Hope when Han is chasing the Stormtroopers, in the unaltered version they lead him back to maybe 10 more. In the altered version, they lead him back to lines of squads. I thought this was more humorous and added more to the presentation. |
