I have a 1080i projector sitting collecting dust that was given to me (hand me down along with another that I sold) I have never used a projector so I don't know anything about them
It was told to me that it needs a new "Colour Wheel"...Is it expensive to get these things fixed or better buying a working used one? The symptom is...it looks like it can't hold a vertical setting really quick scrolling...but when i view the menu it works fine only when the input source is viewed does it do this. Can you fix it yourself like swapping out a bulb? Thanks in advance. Last edited by pmac; 04-19-2009 at 08:44 PM. |

Working used one....
Don't get one with a color wheel. 3 Chip LCD, 3 Chip DLP, and LCOS are all examples of pj's without color wheels. Pj's with color wheels only display one color at a time. and the expect you brain to combine them. (I guess it usually works.) Anyway.. it's not 1080i .... it's 720p. Get a used 1080p set and enjoy all the details of your Blu Rays. (Or... try to get it fixed.... it may need a new bulb as well.) -Brian |

As far as I can remember it is a full color menu.
Like I mentioned it only happened with the source, not on the menu. I will try the seperate inputs I never thoguht of that (Duh!) The bulb has 800hrs on it so it is still good to go for a while. Thanks for the advice. |

If you could tell us the brand and model that would tell more about whether it is worth fixing (if it is not just an input issue). Even if it will "accept" 1080i or even 720p that does not indicate its actual native resolution which is one of the most important specs (along with contrast ratio and lumen output).
