Default Polk RM6750 with Pioneer

Hey guys, i'm planning on buying the Polk RM6750 speaker system with Pioneer VSX-918V-K (Link Below) and would like to know if anybody else has a suggestion or comment on this set up? Per there website, the pioneer has PCM via HDMI. Anybody use this pioneer receiver before? any other suggestions? Don't want to spend more than $500 bucks.. I also noticed that the subwoofer has some speaker connections. Do the speaker connect here, or can I bypass and connect straight to receiver? I'm not that good with home theaters but if anybody has this Polk subwoofer, how does it connect to the receiver? What kind of cable do I need? I'm also looking at the Sony STR DG720 that somebody suggested on another thread.

Right above the Yellow "Video" connectors, you'll see the Subwoofer connect input, so you can connect strt to the Receiver, yes. Sending you a PM also.

Yeah, just use the sub pre-out and an RG6 RCA cable from Monoprice.

While your PS3 doesn't need it, keep in mind that this receiver doesn't decode all the HD audio codecs. You'll be fine in your current setup, but in my opinion if you're going to spend around $350 I would look for one that decodes. It's got a nice rated wpc and it is Pioneer so you are paying for that, but it's possible that a receiver that decodes might meet your future needs better.

Just some food for thought. What you've picked will work though, since the PS3 must decode the HD codecs internally.

I noticed it doesn't decode but can I use pcm mode from the ps3 to get lossless sound? any receiver you suggest? I'm like really novice on surround sound.

Exactly. You'll get lossless from this using your PS3. However if you ever switch to a standalone, you potentially could not. Personally, myself- when I was looking at a receiver, I looked for one that could decode everything so there would be no issue with that in the future. I also of course look at watts, hdmi inputs, pre-outs, and all of that as well.

This is a good choice. I just wanted you to be aware of any potential shortcomings in purchasing this receiver. However, since you asked, there are many other receivers at this price point that will decode. Marantz (not sure of the model #), the Onkyo 606/706, Yamaha 663/665 (I think that's their new one) and of course others in Pioneer's line, depending on your budget.

I'm not trying to talk you out of this choice, but just wanted you to be informed. I think Pioneer is an excellent brand.

Default Love my Onkyo 706

Especially since I paid $430.10 (Refurb., but in A+ condition, no marks, etc.) with that Club Onkyo sale a few weeks back. Seeing "TRU-HD" & "DTS-HD MA" on the 706 via my BD-35 Player was something i'd waited Too long to see!

no problem.. Personally, I doubt i'll be buying another blu-ray player. and if yes, most likely, another PS3. lol.. That's why I'm not worry about a decoding receiver. I'll search those receivers you mentioned. thank so much for the info.
