Default ONKYO HT-S5200 7.1-Channel Black Home Theater System

I need some advice on these speakers. The price is right for me, I just need to know some of your thoughts on the quality of these speakers and the brand.

They're decent enough for HTiB speakers. You could do a lot more buying separates, but of course that is dependant on your budget.

Thank you for the replys. I can afford higher priced speakers, but to be honest I really don't want to spend alot $600-$700 max.

You rang? OP, can you start off with a 2.1 or 3.1 system and save for surrounds? That would be your best approach. I'm thinking a receiver with pre-outs (like the Yamaha 663~$400) and then a nice front sound stage. Why don't you look at some Monitor 50's to start you off as well(x2)? Then the CS2 center channel. Then the A2-300 (as seen in my signature below) for a subwoofer. Then later, the Monitor 30's for surrounds. Go to Monoprice for all of your wiring needs. They also sell wire management supplies in case the WAF is an issue.

Try this minus upgrading to better wire it should handle everything you want and give you a baseline for future audio upgrades.

That package is fine I guess if you're not interested in have Dolby TruHD, DTS-HDMA ? If money permits, you might want to think about getting a receiver that decodes all the lossless audio formats. This is a good time because there coming out with new models, so the current ones can be found cheap, Onkyo 606, Pioneer 1018, Yamaha 663 & so on. Then start putting your 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound together. In the end you will have a lot more for your money.

If you are going with HTiB I would get a speaker set & AVR seperate.

For example
Speaker set: Polk Audio RM6750 or BA MCS-130
and a lower level AVR from Onyko, Yamaha or Pioneer

Much better system would be....

Energy Take5 with no sub for $199 shipped

Yamaha RX-v463 for $270 Shipped (they offer free shipping if you are patient)

(The above receiver will accept audio over HDMI, so if your Blu-ray player decodes it, you are set)

Premiere Acoustics Sub from eBay - $229

That would put you at almost exactly $700 shipped and would be much better than that HTIB. I am sure others will have other recommendations.

I'd do this exactly but swap out the receiver for either the 663 or the Onkyo 606 so you have lossless decoding no matter what. Good setup suggestion!

yeah, i was trying to stay under the $700 (made it by a dollar!). and i figured since his original receiver didn't even have lossless, and it seems like most everything now and probably every source in the future will have lossless on-board, it's a solution that would work for him.

Electronics Expo in NJ would probably do better on that price if he called. they usually sell it for $249/free ship and I have seen it listed at $229/free ship before.
