i did notice there is an "auto surround" button which selects whats best for the particular movie. exaqmple for i am legend it simply displays "PCM" and nothing else. is this right? i am curious about this whole THX thing. does it apply to thx only movies and wouldnt beneficial in a movie like i am legend. again thank you for your help and time.

I just purchased the vsx-03 yesterday and the guy at BB said if you put it on auto surround that the reciever would pick the right format, kind of idiot proof thank god I get my 03 on the 10th, and right now I'm just using a center and two floor standers so I will be unable to get trueHD sound for now but I'm sure it'll sound nice just the same.

i just hit the "display" button on the ps3 and it only states the movie is in "dolby digital 5.1" not true hd. i do not currently have a subwoofer do you think this is why it wont consider the source true hd lossless audio yet?

You need to set your PS3 to LPCM out instead of bitstream. The PS3 won't bitstream TrueHD or Master Audio to the receiver. As far which listening mode: THX modes boast the bass. Other DSPs are your choice. I'd select, Direct (if you have it, or something similar) as it doesn't add extra processing to the sound since the PS3 has already done the decoding.

it is set to linear pcm and the receiver is displaying it as such. i think it wont deliver me lossless audio cause i do not have a sub hooked up right now. thats my guess anyways.

If you have BD player make sure your settings are set to bitstream, and secondary audio is off. The click on standard on your remote and it will automatically goto the soundtrack of the Blu-ray movie. If you want to us your THX setting go out and purchase a THX movie.

I hope that helps.
