Default Out of these 3, please rank the following HDTVs...

Hi guys, just wondering if you could rank the following HDTVs 1-3, give me some pros/cons on each and some info on how they stack up against each other. I am only interested in these particular TVs so if we could keep the discussion limited to them, I'd appreciate it. You can recommend to me another similar TV, but please don't dwell on it. Thank you!

Sony = Panasonic (The XBR will clearly outclass the panny in the PQ catagory, however the panny is bigger and cheaper)

Thank you for your input guys! Sounds like the consensus is that the Sharp AQUOS is the worst of the 3 (I do have a 42-inch Sharp AQUOS HDTV that is pretty awesome though - not sure what model it is). I'm leaning towards the Panny due to cheaper price and larger screen, but if anyone thinks otherwise please let me know.

I do have to say that all the Sony HDTVs I've seen have amazing PQ. I have one myself (a 27", might be an XBR6), but as long as the Panasonic's PQ isn't too big a drop-off, I'm fine picking that one up.

no Sammy love?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218076081107

and you can get the Sony XBR9 for cheaper...
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218062424675

at least at my local BB, they have it for $699.99

my brother is also in the market for a 32" 1080P tv with 120hz, right now he is leaning toward the Sammy after we had the store demo a blu-ray on both the Sony and the Sammy. Samsung easily had better colors and less noise while the Sony seemed like some of the scenes were washed out

used the same blu-ray player and HDMI cable

Thanks for the info DC_Street. I considered some Samsungs, but ultimately settled on these 3.

I hear the Sony XBR9 is cheaper than the XBR6 because it's not as good. From what I hear, XBRs are classed into 3 tiers (XBR6 is low high-end, XBR7 is medium high-end, and XBR8 is high high-end). XBR9 is actually the successor to XBR6 but the first models have some problems not inherent in the latter. Sony should be rolling out the XBR10 to replace the 7 and the XBR11 to replace the 8 at some point.

no reason in particular. I'd probably put one up if I didn't want to narrow it down to 3.

The XBR6 is the best of those specific sets. I'd say the Panny and the Sharp are pretty much equal with both having their pluses and minuses over each other. I do agree with the earlier post that you should consider the Samsung if picture quality is the biggest factor in your decision. The new B600 series is easily better than either of those sets you are considering.

The B650 and the B750 are the best non-LED based LCD's out there this year IMO. The screens are incredibly uniform...something that's pretty rare in the LCD world, and the black level is excellent. Colors are extremely accurate too. The other three sets you are looking at don't touch these.

You're right about the XBR9 being a step backwards in replacing the XBR6. If size is more important then go for the Panny since its the best price and you will still get a very good set overall.

I own a B650 and an XBR9. IMO, the XBR9 is *much* better than the Samsung. I compared the B750 to the XBR9 at BB before I ordered my XBR9 and I felt the Sony had a much cleaner and more realistic picture.

The B750 is a great LCD, but the reflection was annoying (as is the reflection on my B650), and I felt the picture was just brighter and not necessarily any better than the Sony.

Also, I like the XBR9 bezel a lot better than both the B650 and B750.

The Sony XROSS menu system is leaps and bounds better than the menu system on the Samsung. My B650 menu is pretty sluggish (and I'm running the latest firmware) and doesn't have as many online features as the Sony (streaming video etc).

I am looking to buy another 55" for my tv room and would have bought another XBR9 if they had a 55" version (I currently own a 40" B650 and a 46" XBR 9).

I'm waiting until Sony releases their XBR10 and will definitely take the plunge on that.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I've checked out the 6 series, 7 series, and the XBR9 sets, and I can tell you that one of the biggest problems with the XBR9 is that it's color accuracy isn't as good as the Samsung's. Its not bad by any means, but both Samsung's produce more realistic colors.

Check the Cnet review of the B750 and you will see that it beat out the XBR9. You can also look at the results of this year's HDTV shootout where the XBR9 came in dead last among the competition. One of the problems is that the black level is lackluster in comparison to nearly everything else that was released this year. The blacks aren't bad, but they don't quite keep up. The 7 series Samsung definitely has deeper blacks.

Another disadvantage is the uniformity which was also lackluster in comparison to the Samsung's. This is the real killer for me. You get light-bleed in the corners. Both Samsung series 6 and 7 sets have terrific uniformity this year.

I'm glad that you are happy with your set, and you obviously like all of the bells and whistles, but from a picture quality standpoint the Samsung's are simply better. However, if you view your set mostly with the lights on then I can understand your dislike for the reflective screen, but in dark room viewing the Samsung is the better set. Since the XBR10 is supposed to be a higher end set I would expect Sony correct some of the problems with the XBR9, but that remains to be seen.

I actually did read cnet reviews and the shootout results and I was a little surprised at the outcome.

I'm far from a videophile, so I am obviously missing something. I am also not much of a Sony fan since I believe there products are usually overpriced with a marginal increase in quality... in fact, prior to purchasing the XBR9, I was planning on purchasing the B8000 LED tv (after having purchased my B650). However, a friend of mine owns a B7000 and pointed out a couple issues to me. The most visible being the dark spots on the 4 corners of the screen which are very clearly visible during bright scenes. Also, the auto dimming / auto brightness feature (whatever that is called) tended to be annoying during certain scenes.

I actually did compare the exact same scene on both my B650 and XBR9 and noticed much more detail and clarity on the XBR9. I have both tvs calibrated per TweakTV recommendations (for movie viewing).

I actually spent a lot of time deciding between the B750 and XBR9, and there was only a $200 difference between them. In the end, I'm glad I got the XBR9.

I would actually consider a Samsung LED based LCD for my next 55" if Samsung fixed the "dim corners" issue and / or had an LED based local dimming version. I believe the 8500 is supposed to support local dimming, so it would be interesting to see how that would compare to the new XBR10 (which is supposed to be the successor to the XBR8).

Well, there certainly are trade-offs with either set, and it sounds like you weighed them accordingly before making your decision. I too briefly considered the LED sets, but after owning one plasma I pretty much knew that I wouldn't go back to LCD. None of the problems we have each listed concerning LCD's are a concern with plasmas.

Its funny how the XBR8 is considered one of the top sets, but every time I've seen it I was less than impressed. It looks good, but I think the price tag just irritates me knowing that there are better TV's available for considerably less money.
