Default WANTED Review

Hey folks, I saw a screening of Wanted tonight. Here is a little review with no spoilers that you will not find out in the first few minutes of the movie.

Not knowing the source material I will not be critiquing this against that so take waht you will from it. I enjoyed it highly. The story introduces us to Wesley GIbson, a man who yields zero results when googling himself, whoase father left him and his mother right after his birth, whose girlfriend is cheating on him with his best friend, and whose boss is a big fat ***** to put it nicely. Wesley is soon confronted by Angelina Jolie while picking up his prescription for the severe panic attacks he suffers. He fnds out that his father was in a secret society of assassins and that he was recently killed by a rogue member of the group and that He, Wesley was the only one who culd tak down the killer, because of his inherited sepcial abilities. This sets off a string of action that really keeps you going until the end. I will not go into the plot much because I do not want to spoil anything. Just suffice to say it will keep you interested. All the performances are uniformly impressive, with James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman really standing out. And of Jolie does a great job. Timur Bekmambatov truly is the next great action director, I loved his Nightwatch and Daywatch films so I set this to a pretty high standard before seeing a minute of it and he did not disappoint. His style is carried through this entire movie and the bigger budget I assume he had here really paid off. The effects are awesome, gunplay is fast and viscious definitely earning its R rating. Violent, interesting, and beautifully choreographed with more comedy interspesed than I expected. I fully enjoyed this movie, and I highly recommend it. The only downfall of this movie is that once Wesley begins his missions after training, there just are not enough of them, I wanted to see more. It is an awesome theatrical experience.

Incredibly, with all the video clips (damn near the entire movie), I cannot for the life of me remember when this is coming out.

I know I can Google it, but I just wanted to make the point that I did not know, even with all the ads for it. I knew when Hulk, Hancock, X-Files, and Dark Knight are out, but not Wanted. Odd.

The premise sounds interesting enough, but Angelina Jolie will probably keep me from seeing this one. I despise her as an actress.

Thanks, I'm also curious what Bekmambatov can do with the right budget. Looking forward to it little bit more now.

I didn't like Mr. and Mrs. Smith, but I do like Brad Pitt.

Angelina Jolie, I don't find her attractive, in fact I think she's downright weird looking. I am looking forward to seeing Wanted, but the "bend it like bullet" thing is pretty stupid.

I agree, she, along with most of her movies, sucks. This movie seems like it could be cool. But she ruins it, totally.

Also that part in the trailer where she picks up that guy in her car, by doing a cookie, is just plain crap! My bunghole could write a better action sequence.

The action is intended to be over the top as this is based on a comic book series. All the characters in it have what you might call super powers that allows them to do these things. Please do not go into this movie thinking you are gonna get realistic action. It is not Crank or Shoot Em Up ridiculous, but still pretty crazy.

I'm a fan of over-the-top action as well (especially being a huge comic book fan), but some elements just don't need to be rehashed. Just because it looks good in a comic doesn't mean it would look good in the movie.

Sin City is good example of a comic book movie with over-the-top action that is actually good. The action scenes in WANTED, to me at least, seem like they are just ripping off elements of the Matrix.

You will think that very much especially in the first few minutes of the movie, it looks so much like the Matrix. It is more an indication of Timur's directing style though that it ends up feeling and looking much more like Daywatch and Nightwatch, than the Matrix. I don't think it is for everyone but I liked it a lot. It does not break much new ground but it is a very fun movie, especially in a full theatre.

I don't care for Angelina Jolie, either. She tries too hard to keep a Bruce Willis face rather than letting it relax. And the movie lost me at the "curve the bullet"-thing. Sorry, even if it's not intended to be realistic, I still don't like it.

It's still a week early, but it seems to be drawing raves from the critics thus far (it currently has a score of 100), and there's already talk of a sequel.

This movie looks interesting. I may venture out into the theaters *shudder* to see it.

I do like Angelina as an actress. She's got that one movie where she showed her boobs, then that other where she showed her boobs, then those couple of other ones where I wish she had shown her boobs. A fine resume if you ask me.
