Default Actors who are considered these great talents, but you don't quite see it?

To name one: Chloe Grace Moretz.

She's pretty good in "Let Me In" and the two "Kick-Ass" movies. She is very average or even downright bad in everything else.

I'm gonna get beat on for this one, but J-Law... she's a decent actress, but really nothing to write home about

I got your back. Totally agree. In fact, i like her off stage in interviews more then her acting performance, because of her cool personality. Strictly acting, i don't see the big hype (granted i liked Silver Linings Playbook).

You two have actually hit the nail on the head with those two, both are good, but they're not the defining actresses of our generation as they've been made out to be.

For me, I don't quite get Hugh Jackman, he's a good actor, great in Prisoners, but everyone says he gets better and better in every X-Men movie and I just keep saying to myself "it's the exact same thing everytime around"

Prisoners reinvigorated Hugh Jackman appeal for me. Solid, all around acting chops, plus he's a nice guy.

My joint top film of the year alongside The Worlds End last year.

Jennifer and Chloe are both aces in The Poker House.

Too bad the movie leaves you wanting to shower with bleach.

Your right her best acting thus far was in Winters Bone. I like her and her personality off camera is real. She is a good actress just not the one to represent these current years.

Will Ferrell and Melissa McCarthy - flipsides of the same dull coin to me.

I agree with the first two comments. Both Chloe Moretz and Jennifer Lawrence are fine actors... but they're nothing spectacular. They both actually tend to annoy me more than anything, if I'm being honest.

Anne Hathaway (Incredibly annoying)
Natalie Portman (Black Swan and Leon aside)
Leonardo DiCaprio (Can always tell he is acting)

Going old school on you guys. I never thought Rod Stieger (sp?) was the great actor a lot of people make him out to be. I always feel like he's trying too much, therefore I can see him "acting". I thought he was good in "In the heat of the night" and in "On the waterfront". But everything else I was like "eh".

I don't think he was too bad in The Specialist.

While he gave a few good performances, Steiger is the very definition of a glazed ham who goes so far over the top that he can't even see the top when looking down. It sure is entertaining. American Gothic possesses the quintessential Steiger performance; he's fully committed to his own badness like he's playing Macbeth in front of plebeians who just don't understand!

Exactly. Being willing to do any stupid thing does not make you fearless or a comic genius. Given the current climate around bullying and teasing people over their weight, I am surprised McCarthy has a career at all as she seems to be building her career around being the fat girl. With Farrell, I just find him dumb. For example, I thought his special as George W was bad because he wasn't acting like George W, he was just saying dumb things in a Geroge W style voice. Part of doing impressions is doing things where they audience goes "oh, i can so see ... doing that" but with his special, I kept thinking the exact opposite.

Totally agree! Maybe I'll check out American Gothic for the hell of it.

This guy may not be in the upper echelon of the greats, but I just don't understand how Mark Wahlberg keeps getting work. I remember him getting all sorts of accolades for The Departed and The Fighter and I just did NOT see it. Those were his best acting performances and the only thing convincing about his characters in either of those movies was his Boston accent.
