And giving charity is fine, but considering the ridiculous money they have earned since they give a very small fraction of it away despite earning far more than they deserve.
Just a thought. Don't kill me please. I consider myself a law-abiding citizen, at least I try to be, I'm not perfect. And I do have those opportunities if I really want to pursue them. That is the Constitutional right of everyone to pursue happiness. Whatever form that takes. Walhberg screwed up. Downey Jr. screwed up. We all screw up. They suffered through their consequences and no doubt they still have it hit them, but I am not going to bring the gavel down on them and say they shouldn't be allowed to have the careers they have. It's not my place to do so. From everything I have read about, and from Wahlberg, he is a man who has indeed made terrible mistakes and paid a price and yet he never once lays blame on anyone else. He doesn't make himself a victim of poor circumstance. He takes responsibly and does the only thing that anyone in the situation can do. Ask for forgiveness. Despite the fact that we aren't the ones he wronged. We don't even know the guy on a personal level. So, again, I refuse to pass judgment and start avoiding his movies because he has a terrible past. As long as he continues to show the respect for the gravity of what he did and doesn't start pointing fingers at anyone else, I'm cool with him. And Downey Jr.

It's hard to care for the story when the "cleaning up, helping people, trust earning and demon dealing" is done through multi million picture deals. There are thousands of people who put in far more graft than him, help far more people and earn nothing for it and they never went to prison in the first place either. Where is their celebration? And don't get me started on Whalberg, I get no sense of respect from him whatsoever, he flaunts it what he has with arrogance because he knows damn well he doesn't deserve it. Maybe I'd be more forgiving if either were good actors but alas.

You can call me names as much as you like but I answered the thread with my opinion and just because you want to take a moral high ground for some reason - nothing better to do? - doesn't somehow make me wrong or stupid.

Wait...we're the ones trying to stake out some moral high ground?

You can't be serious. You simply can't be.

No one is calling you names dude. At least I didn't. If I did, I'm sorry. Please calm down. You have your opinion of the man, then have it. We have ours. Let's not start a riot here. And as for the moral high ground? I have no such thing. Wahlberg is a human being like me. I am not above him. Or beneath. I don't "celebrate" him. I enjoy the movies I see with him, which aren't very many, but still. Good gracious. This is like if someone said to me "Uh no. You hit your brother in the stomach on the school bus once loud enough that the driver could hear the impact, so you don't deserve to have a full time job with benefits, you should live in the slums."

I didn't see anybody, but any argument should never stoop to name calling. Then it's middle school all over again.

I didn't call you names. I said the idea you were saying was asinine, but that's my opinion. I just think you need to look at the whole picture in your arguments, not cherry pick to try and make yourself right. I didn't call you stupid, just thought you were looking at things the wrong way, and you weren't seeing the whole picture. To each their own, but I won't try to convince you otherwise again, but don't take it as me attacking you and calling you names, because I wasn't intending that. I apologize if you thought that was the case.

Watch "What About Bob?" One of the funniest movies ever made.

Those were his best acting performances and the only thing convincing about his characters in either of those movies was his Boston accent.
The issue with Wahlberg is his "American" accent is whiny. That's only worked in his favor twice, Boogie Nights and Pain & Gain. The first he's supposed to be naive, the second it adds to the comedy of the film. Pretty much every other role he's had it works against him. He's usually good in his Boston films. He's solid in The Fighter, but the praise was basically due to his proximity to the two Oscar-winning roles. He's funny in Ted and handled the physical comedy very well. He's excellent in The Departed. He was the only interesting thing in the American version of the film, as his character didn't exist in the Hong Kong series. The irony is that the film won four Oscars across five nominations, with his win being the only deserved one being the films' only loss.

If you want to talk about "great" talents who don't deserve the praise? Post-1990 Martin Scorcese. His best movie, imo, since 1990 is one of the only ones he didn't receive an Academy Award Nomination for, Shutter Island.

The problem with Mark Wahlberg is that he's not only untalented, but he's a racist ass who threw rocks at black schoolchildren, broke the jaw of his neighbor, blinded a Vietnamese man & continues to not feel guilty about it because he asked for forgiveness...though he admits he didn't ask the people he assaulted and/or disfigured.

Plus, I can't in good conscience pay money to see the man who said about 9/11 "If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did.” Yup, Dirk Diggler would have swatted away those terra'ists with his massive schlong.

Downey Jr. is just another Hollywood druggie. Anyone who holds that against him couldn't possibly watch another movie again.
