Samsung BD-P 1400 (profile 1.0, very cheap)
Samsung BD-P 1500 (profile 1.1, will be updated to BD LIVE)

Actually you can take those too if your player can only handle PCM input since they all can decode all HD Soundformats internally.

Except for the Samsung 1500 who will not be able to internally decode DTS HD until the next Firmware update.

Picturewise they are all pretty much the same.

Soundwise too.

Most important tip: Don't buy a Sony Player. They don't support the HD Soundformats.. (Which are one of the greatest things about Blu Ray)

If you have more questions send me a message
HUH! Please clarify. Also, I thought the Sammys were unreliable based on feedback here.

I'm actually a student but I'm doing some website projects on the side that should bring in some money. I hope.

I meant "only" in reference to the Denon's $2000 tag of course. If I could afford it I would get the Denon; I've seen their DVD players (my dad has one) and they're amazing. And $800 is also cheaper than the cost to buy an equivalent sounding receiver with HDMI audio ($1050).

I don't think anyone "needs" analog output. Those new-fangled HDMI cable thingies can send the audio with the video to the rest of your gear.

Time to ditch the pro-logic AVRs.

PS3 decodes all HD audio available... I am watching the movie not the front of my receiver so I do not need to see the cool HD Master 7.1.

I actually wholeheartedly agree with you. The problem is no higher-end companies have the pre-amps out yet.

Forgive them since they know not what they do.

A PS3 into a $400 AVR into a 32" LCD is high end for 99% of members here.

In that case it would be madness to consider a BD player without analog outs.

As the other poster mentioned, basically 99% of us do not have mega thousand dollar recievers let alone pre-amps.

Hi,

Don't worry .. say what you will.

I was sort of joking when I said ditch the pro-logic AVRs which is why I used the pro-logic part. No need to get your panties ruffled about it.

You all have missed the boat. In my opinion the pioneer elite models are the best. They were making blu rays before just about anyone else besides Pannasonic. The Pioneer can decode all materials and I personally have had no issues with playing anything on it. I have not been a member long but have been in home theater for years and have had many nic pieces of equipment. I will say that my next blu ray player will be the top of the line Elite.

DENON AVR 4308ci
DENON DVD 3930ci
ELITE BDP 95
SAMSUNG 5084 1080p
DEF TECH BP7002's, CLR2500, UIW BPZ/A (2), UIW 94/A (2)
RICHARD GRAYS s600 Power Conditioner
MONSTER HTS 5100 Mk2

Getting ready to sell 4308ci and purchase the new MARANTZ seperates.

Here is a great article direct from CE Pro on why professional installers should be placing the PS3 as the BD player of choice in their customers' custom-built home theater rooms. CE Pro is the leading trade publication for the consumer electronics home theater and whole house networking solutions industry.

If the PS3 is good enough for custom home installers, where they could be working on $100k plus projects, there's a good chance it'll probably work for your needs too. Of course everyone's situation is different, so it may not be right for you. The PS3's biggest drawbacks are lack of traditional I/R remote support, no multi-channel analog output for non-HDMI gear, and lack of bitstreaming for people who feel a need for it. However, the PS3's positives far outweigh the negative, and it brings a whole lot of great features and future proofing together in one inexpensive box.

Here's the article:

Post Bitstreaming...

Use PS3 as blu-ray on pioneer elite TV. What exactly am I losing by the PS3 not being able to "bitstream audio" i have a fairly high end system (10kish, powered by vsx82txs, focal 826vb, matching center and rears, velodyne minivee), but never had an issue with sound. using optical cable b/c my receiver does not support hdmi audio - all audioquest wiring.

I have dts-hdma showing in full 1080p hd with full bitrate on my tv screen so no need to see it on the receiver.

What you are losing is sound. The most quality you can get for surround sound over an optical cable is I believe 1.5 Mbps. If you were to get a player with analog outs you would notice an immediate and obvious change for the better in your sound quality. Even the Sharp -20 would do it, except it doesn't do DTS-MA, but you'd hear it on PCM and TrueHD tracks.

Being limited to only optical means you are currently not and will never get any of the HD audio formats.
While I'm sure with that system DTS and DD sound great, HD audio will blow you away.
The difference is like that of DVD vs Blu on the visual side.

If you had a Blu player that internally decoded all HD format and passed 7.1 analog out to the 7.1 input of your Elite AVR you would be enjoying HD audio right now.
The PS3 cannot and will never be able to do that and that is its bigest downfall in a highend system.

EDIT:
Whoa, you have a vsx82txs?! This one right?
That model does have HDMI 1.2 inputs!
If so, why are you using optical for blurays?
The PS3 can send decoded HD Audio through HDMI.
Any HDMI 1.2 capable AVR should be able to play the converted PCM output.
It is the digital equivilent to the analog situation stated above.
In your case make sure the HDMI is set to AMP and not THROUGH.
