Thumbs up Halloween: 30th Anniversary Blu-ray!

A re-release of Halloween was mentioned in the same article that mentioned that Hellraiser was coming to Blu-Ray later this year. There's finally some news on the release. It sounds like it's going to be a rather packed set. The DVD release will take up 6 DVDs. So we're probably looking at atleast 3-4 for the Blu-Ray one if they keep the two versions of the movie on seperate discs. Hopefully we'll get the full specs in a few days.

From Shock Til You Drop:

EXCL: Halloween: 30th Anniversary DVD Coming
Source:ShockTillYouDrop.com July 13, 2008

Myers fans, make more room on your DVD shelf. Sources tell ShockTillYouDrop.com that an ad will appear this week in one of the video trade papers announcing a new six-disc (!) Halloween: 30th Anniversary box set. The latest presentation will include multiple presentations of John Carpenter's 1978 film - including a Blu-Ray edition and the rare extended edition. As an incentive, distributor Anchor Bay will package the set with a miniature Michael Myers mask. Look for full specs and artwork here on Shock soon!
http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news...ws.php?id=6952

EDIT: Note that the boxset is only a collection of previously released DVD's of Halloween, Halloween (Extended TV Cut), Halloween 4, Halloween 5, Halloween: 25 Years of Terror, and the previously released Blu-Ray of Halloween. There is nothing new in the set.

Heh. I know it was mentioned in the Hellraiser thread, but now we have some firm info.

A 6-Disc DVD set? Egad... I didn't think they could dig that much up about the film.

Hopefully Anchor Bay will include the replica Myers Mask with the Blu-Ray as well.

So if I'm understanding this right, this is going to be a 3-4 Blu-Ray disc set on just the first Halloween film, plus tons of extra's only???

Yes. Which means 2-3 versions of the film. Probably the original extras from the DVD/Blu-Ray. The extras from the Halloween: 25 Years of Terror DVD set. And then some new extras.

The wording is actually a bit odd which is why I want to hear more.
To be honest it almost sounds like it will be a set consisting of dvds and a blu ray release which then leads to the question as to whether it is the existing blu ray version.

I like the original, but there doesn't need to be more than 1 version of the film released in a box set. They should just box all the films together and release them that way. Sounds like a waste to me.

I really don't think they'd release a DVD set with a Blu-Ray disc inside.

Can you imagine the clueless number who think they got a defective disc?

They can't. Anchor Bay doesn't have control of every sequel.

And yes, they need to release the extended TV Version of the Film as well.

Wouldn't the TV version be an edited version?

No, I believe the TV version was a slightly extended edition. All of the stuff from the original is in there, there are just some extra scenes, some of which help merge it with Halloween II a lot more (others that are pointless additives to be honest.) I think the tv version is 9 minutes longer??

Hopefully this release will include all that discovered footage that was thought lost forever that turned up a couple of years ago.

From Wiki:
Quote:
In August 2006, Fangoria reported that Synapse Films had discovered boxes of negatives containing footage cut from the film. One was labeled "1981" suggesting that it was additional footage for the television version of the film. Synapse owner Don May Jr. said, "What we've got is pretty much all the unused original camera negative from John Carpenter's original Halloween. Luckily, Billy [Kirkus] was able to find this material before it was destroyed. The story on how we got the negative is a long one, but we'll save it for when we're able to showcase the materials in some way. Kirkus should be commended for pretty much saving the Holy Grail of horror films." It was later reported, "We just learned from Sean Clark, long time Halloween genius, that the footage found is just that: footage. There is no sound in any of the reels so far, since none of it was used in the final edit."

Why should the so-called "double dip crap" be over?

If there's more to include and offer, why not put it out there for those who do want it.

Especially if they include some of that lost footage and some new featurettes.

Hell, if they would have found the extra footage for Metropolis after releasing the Blu-Ray, would you folks be whining against a double dip for that also? How dare the studios want to give us more! Egad!!

I wouldn't even think about re-buying this on Blu-ray if it hadn't been brought up that it will include the tv version (which I love!) I'd always wished the original Blu-ray had the tv edit on, through seemless branching or something. I will buy this for the TV edit, but never again will I buy another copy!

What do people reckon the discs will comprise of? 3 or 4 discs?

Disc 1 - Theatrical version (Probably just re-using of the existing Blu-ray disc)
Disc 2 - Extended (TV) Cut
Disc 3 - Bonus (Whatever it all may be?)

Agreed.
Bottom line is that if you do not like it, do not buy it.
I can say for sure though that if they released this only on dvd I would have been pissed off.
Choice is a great and powerful thing, and they are giving it to us.

I'm shocked! Shocked I tell you! Who would've guessed that Anchor Bay would be double-dipping this early in the game, and with Halloween of all movies, and on its 30th anniversary? https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...4&postcount=52

Not really. They still didn't correct all the colors, there's the TV scenes they could add, and, MOST IMPORTANTLY OF ALL, they could give us the original mono track in PCM, no worthless Dolby Digital 1.0/2.0 garbage!

Beast, that's my thinking as well. I guess we'll see. I've been waiting for Anchor Bay to officially announce what they're going to release this fall. I'm hoping Phantasm I & III will be among those listed.

The wording is screwy to say the least.

From what it says, it sounds like this will be a six disc set, one of which being a Blu-Ray (probably the one already released), and the other 5 being DVDs. The discs in the set could be:

1) The original theatrical
2) The extended TV version
3) The new "rare" extended version
4) The "25 Years Of Terror" Documentary (or possibly a new one)
5) The existing Blu-Ray
6) ??? Maybe a disc loaded with extras

All wrapped up in a pretty box with a mini Myers mask.

So I'm not getting too excited until the full details come out - probably on Friday in the new Home Media Magazine.
