Default Are B/W movies worthy of BD?

Would it be worth it? Classic movies like Frankenstein and Psycho?

They're film like anything else. B&W doesn't equal poor quality

Is there a B/W flick out on BD already? Not that I'm aware of.

For sure... a remastered BD version with incredible contrast and restored visuals will look fantastic.

I don't think there are any 100% black and white films out now, but there are black and white parts of many films, like Casino Royale, that look great.

I'm looking forward to some Black & White films. However:

Considering the amount of people complaining about buying their WIDESCREEN TVs only to have some of their screen real estate be taken up by BLACK BARS.

Considering the amount of people complaining about buying their HDTVs for PQ only to have some films on BD released with FILM GRAIN.

The odds of many of these people appreciating BLACK AND WHITE films instead of complaining how they bought a COLOR TV and are not getting their money's worth with a BLACK & WHITE FILM, might be small... at least at this time.

Not a traditional B/W Film as it is animated but, Persepolis is all B/W.

I can't wait for Citizen Kane on Blu-ray. Black and white movies look great on Blu-ray. Several have already been released.

Good Night and Good Luck is one, and The Mist will be B&W.

From the Apocalist:

TITLES AVAILABLE NOW (5)

good night, and good luck (Warner) B/W
Jailhouse Rock (Warner) DtHD 5.1 and DD Mono B/W
The Longest Day (Fox) B/W
Persepolis (Sony) B/W
20 Million Miles to Earth (Sony) B/W + colorized versions

COMING SOON (3)

The Mist (Weinstein) includes B/W and color versions
Casablanca (Warners) Ultimate Collectors Edition B/W Academy ratio
Metropolis (Kino) B/W silent 1.33

And of course there will be more (for example see Criterion) TBA

Black and white film tends to be sharper than film with color dyes, all else being equal.

Put me down for CITIZEN KANE as well. Given how pioneering Greg Tolland's cinematography was on that film, it would definitely be a B&W movie that deserves to be on Blu-Ray.

Also looking forward to CASABLANCA and METROPOLIS on Blu, and THE THIRD MAN is one Criterion title on Blu I want to get. Those Vienna sewers and Harry Lime's reveal are going to look awesome at 1080p.

I think there is obviously a huge difference between B&W films the OP was referring to, and any movie that happens to be in B&W (Casino Royale, Persepolis, etc).

I just don't see it being worth it, for most movies.

For those that say AQ is half of the movie, I don't see them getting excited about the likely 2-channel audio they'll be getting on most of these movies.

DVDs for old stuff (I'd say from the 1920's-1940's) seem good enough. A marginal improvement on BD doesn't seem worth the higher cost.

Even so, I'd still make an exception for The Wizard of Oz on BD, despite it being almost 70 years old. Maybe they can whip an anniversary edition out for next year? Maybe? Yes?

Time to regularly check for updates here: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php?id=763

How would the quality of a film in B&W be any different from a film in color? If shot on film, there is still a considerable amount of detail to be garnered from a high def presentation. Like any film, it's all about the source and the care taken in restoring/presenting it.
