Default Simpsons 2, coming eventually

The Simpsons To Return To Big Screen
17 July 2008 9:03 AM, PDT

The Simpsons is heading back to the big screen - creator Matt Groening has confirmed a sequel to last year's hit movie.

The animated comedy went feature-length for the first time, and became a box office smash with earnings of more than $500 million (GBP250 million) worldwide.

So Groening is returning to Springfield for a follow-up - but he warns fans they have a long wait ahead, as the first film took four years to make.

He says, "It will happen at some point, but I have no idea when. The first one took us four years - mainly because we don't like to work any harder than we usually do."

Last year marked the 20th anniversary of the Emmy Award-winning animated franchise.

NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. The last one was awful.

Some of the critics kissed its ass but it was trite from the first frame to the last. Nothing amazing happened.

That's my opinion anyhow

"Eventually" in the last case meant "19 years".

Then there's the fact that the voice contracts expire next year, which tests those theories that Fox really had been only keeping the show on the air long enough to finally get that first movie out...

The voice contracts were recently extended four more seasons, per this link: http://tvshows.brainbloggers.com/200...-up-to-400000/
However, I would assume a movie would be negotiated separately. I though the last movie was decent, but nothing great. I'd watch a sequel on blu-ray but I wouldn't pay to see it in the theater.

Well i'm glad you enjoyed it. Am I to guess you're a simpsons fan by any chance... if so you must have a lot of faith in that show to stick with it through what i've come to call "The Shite Years of the Simpson family... and latterly Sipmsons writing staff"

The movie wasn't great...but it was better than I was expecting, and better than most of the last 4 seasons. I think The Simpsons are finally due to end at some point in the near future, but one more movie wouldn't be something that I'd dread. I'd look forward to it, but no ecstatically.

Brilliant movie, looks and sounds awesome on blu-ray and the fact that it grossed 500m PROVES to you that it wasn't a bad movie. Look forward to seeing the 2nd one.

I'm not a huge Simpson's fan and I loved the movie, thought it was more like the episodes of old.
