Default Simpsons Movie vs Simpsons game

Anyone else here seen the Simpsons movie on Blu-ray and played the Simpsons game.

Personally, I thought the PQ of the animated scenes in the game blew away the PQ of the movie.

Did Fox just mess up the transfer? Is it just me? Is there some other reason the scenes in the game look better?

EDIT - To clarify, I don't think the transfer for the movie is terrible. I just happen to think the PQ during the animated cutscenes in the game looks a lot better. If I had a way to get some comparison shots, I would. Don't think I can though as I don't think I can pause the cutscenes.

Just got the Simpsons Movie BD this morning. Is it just my setup, or is there a black box completely surrounding the opening of the film?

I skipped ahead a few scenes and it seems to have disappeared...

I thought the movie was really nice looking, but that's just me and my eyes.

I think that was done with intention (even in the theater where I saw it) to mock the 4:3 aspect ratio of the TV series.

It's meant to be like that.

They were both good. The game was only 720p though, and no antialiasing at all. I thought the movie looked better.

You should watch the movie. It is the opening joke. It is pretending that it was 4:3 and not widescreen, so when you get 4:3 into WS into 16:9 you get the bars.

I'm a huge Simpsons fan, I have The Simpsons Movie on BluRay and The Simpsons Game on Wii (so it's not 1080p, only 480p), but yes the Simpsons Movies was completely Hand drawn while The Simpsons Game was done with prerenderened cartoons more in the way that Family Guy is, the characters always look the same since there not drawn by hand, it has a bit of a different look, but imo I prefer the look of The Simpsons Movie.

Here are some screen shots so you can kinda compare, even though the pictures are kinda small

Thank you Mr. Sparkle. This definitely answers my question on why they look different to me. I guess I prefer the look of the prerendered stuff. If Family guy is done that way (as you say), it makes me excited to see it on Blu one day.

Any good sites where I can read up on this animation technique? I'd love to learn more so I can get a better understanding

The Simpsons Movie was not hand-drawn, but rather computer animated. Check out the commentary and other material knocking about, they confirm this.

Simpsons movie is hand drawn. They were showing pencil tests and things at comic-con a year before of the scene where Homer is mushing the dogs

What they do is that they only draw the characters, and then they do all their pen and ink in the computer. Most of the environments are computer generated these days, and then cel-shading is used to give it an animated look

A similar technique may have been used in the game, you see it a lot in the current DragonBall and Naruto games

The Simpsons arcade game considered?
I have yet to play hit & run, and I have only played the demo of the recent game. I wasn't wowed by the gameplay of the demo but recently I have been thinking that if i could maybe get it for 15 dollars or less I might go for it. I haven't decided yet if I will get the 360 version or the PS3, and no i don't want no completly fanboy opinions on which one to get. I guess which ever one I see for 15 dollars or less first.

Road Rage though a knock off of crazy taxi.... in which case i had never played crazy taxi before playing Road Rage but still knew even then it was a knock off of it.. I do admit to really enjoying that one though. Also liked Barts Nightmare for it's time.

But I think a real debate could be which was the worst Simpsons game?
I never played Simpsons skateboarding or whatever it was titled.. But I could easily say any of the NES Simpsons games or Simpsons wrestling was the worst of the simpsons games.
