Default Tim Burton's Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

Eva Green Eyes Tim Burton’s ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’

Quote:
Eva Green is in negotiations to star in the Fox pic “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” which Burton will direct.

Based on the Ranson Riggs’ novel about a teenager who finds himself transported to an island where he must help protect a group of orphans with special powers from creatures out to destroy them. Green would play the title character, who acts as a guardian for these orphans.

Chernin Entertainment is producing the pic.

If the deal closes, the film would be a step closer to giving Burton another supernatural feature to tackle. Green and Burton had previously worked together on “Dark Shadows” and Burton has always enjoyed reteaming with thesps he has worked with in the past.

Green, who is repped by UTA and Tavistock Wood Management, was last seen in “300: Rise of an Empire” and can be seen next in Robert Rodriguez’s “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.”

She has also stayed busy on the TV front with her Showtime show “Penny Dreadful,” which was recently renewed for a second season.

Yep. That sounds right up his alley. Is Eva the new Helena?

...Because they're MISUNDERSTOOD!
(Oh, lord, has Burton become his own fairground band.)

If you've seen the books, they're rather heavily beating the 80's Burton-fan "quirky gothiness" into the ground, which makes the project a bit of a mutual stroke-fest.
Also rather heavily borrowing from "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events", which didn't hire Burton for their movie, and emerged far more unscathed for book readers. Evidently, some producer who got the book-rights deal for this one wondered why they didn't.

Apparently they didn't have the make-up to turn Johnny Depp into a 16-year-old boarding school student, so "Hugo" and "Ender's Game" star Asa Butterfield is Tim Burton's top choice for the lead in the upcoming "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children."

Based on Ransom Riggs's best selling fantasy novel, "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" follows 16-year-old boy Jacob as he investigates his grandfather's paranormal murder, meets a firestarter named Emma, and travels back in time to 1940 to miss the titular caretaker. The "peculiar children" are like a Hogwartsian spin on the X-Men, each with their own super-powered gifts. The Wrap reports that, if deals go down the way they're predicted to, Butterfield will take on the role of Jacob alongside Eva Green's Miss Peregrine.

The disappointing returns of "Frankenweenie" and "Dark Shadows" aren't keeping Burton down. The gothic auteur's next film, "Big Eyes," is looking like a lock in a number of awards categories. A revered source material should help keep Burton on track with "Miss Peregrine"; a Publisher's Weekly review called it "an eccentric read, distinguished by well-developed characters, a believable Welsh setting, and some very creepy monsters."

Butterfield was recently seen opposite Sally Hawkins in the Toronto premiere, “X+Y." He'll next star in “Ten Thousand Saints," an indie drama costarring Ethan Hawke and Hailee Steinfeld. Though "Ender's Game" sequels were discussed after the modest debut of the first film, any movement on the franchise is likely wishful thinking from fans.

Started reading this book. Lost interest and never finished. With Burton directing, I have no interest in seeing it.

New Date

The studio has moved up the Tim Burton adaptation of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children from Christmas Day to September 30 of this year, which is quite a crowded day.

I'm looking forward to this, but the book really only took off in the last third. Will be interesting to see how they treat the adaptation.

Looks genuinely good, Burton has been a bit derivative past few years, but from those pictures, he seems to have created something that looks quite surreal as opposed to quirky. I'm looking forward to seeing a trailer to see if it all pans out.

Loved the first two books (waiting for a paperback release for the third one), so great book + Burton +Eva Green = Shut Up And Take My Money.

I'm so excited for this! Honestly, it's one of my favorite YA books released in the past few years. This is probably thinking way too far ahead... but I had a dream where I had the movie on blu-ray, and the case was like a photo album with all the weird pictures. I would die for that (assuming the movie is great).

Heres hoping this is going to be as good as the trailer looks. The cinematography looks fantastic.
