Default PS3 problem...not sure where else to put this

Based on the typical threads in other forums, I'm not sure where to put this question.

I turned on my PS3 today (it is in a cool, clean, well ventilated area), and it has stopped loading any PS3 games, DVD, or blu-ray movies. I can access the menu, load media, and as soon as I hit the icon, nothing loads and the machine will not turn off when I hold the off switch down, nor will it return to the menu. I have to turn the machine off in back. Is my machine dead? Should I try to contact Sony?

So did you turn your console back on and see what is up with it?

If the said problem continues, I am afraid your Blu laser might be dead. Try to turn it back on again and see if it corrects itself first. If not, call Sony.

No, turning it back on did not correct itself. I ended up doing a quick restore and then the blu-ray loaded and the movie started playing, but now I can't get any sound out of my surround sound even though it looks to be set up right. Pooh.

Same thing happened to me! System restore, tried everything...

Call up tech support and take advantage of your warranty, if you have one...

I've read reports of people having success fixing similar glitches by removing the hard drive (backup anything important first), formatting it, and then doing a complete restore. Your mileage may vary however. Might be worth a try.
