i leave it on 0 and forget it. sometimes i use the tv speakers and ive read that some setups, the audio gets distorted when the ps3 volume is set higher. anyway, if i want it louder i use the volume control on the tv or receiver.

The PS3's default volume is generally pretty hot/loud so there should be no need to turn it up. And yeah, its generally said the boosting it can introduce some noise. Don't be afraid to turn it down, though, if needed. Say for DVDs or PS2 games that have an even louder starting volume than Blu-rays and PS3games.

you will introduce distortion to your sound field if you do that...let your receiver do the amplifying.

Exactly. I've always left my volume setting at 0.

Do you want him to blow his speakers. You have to be careful when boosting your PS3 output volume. +1 and even +2 is fine, but +3 and diff +4 can be dangerous for your speakers. Distortion is what will damage a speaker. It's not noise or anything similar to that. Its just pure distortion. I would leave it at zero and let your amp....well amplify your sound. Not the PS3. Just a suggestion.

The PS3 can murder a tweeter at +4...So don't be a man and shave the fur off your peaches...unless you want to be buying new speakers after you decide to showcase your system to someone.

Get a bigger AMP lol jk umm I'd leave it alone and on 0 reduces distortion.

I've said this a million times already but......i dont get why people keep saying dont change the volume. i have mine on +2 right now and i get no clipping, its sounds clear. even when i put it on +4 just to test it out i still get no clipping. 4 is way to loud though. 4 is louder than alot of AV's out there, so yea i wouldn't put it that high.

It was just a joke, hence my Figured with the way I said it that would be pretty clear... Ah well. Of course I don't want him to blow his speakers.

Oh, and your little "peach" comment made me spew soda all over my monitor. Thanks!

i also read somewhere (i think on these forums) that increasing the ps3's volume may unevenly process the audio so you won't be hearing the audio track as it was intended.

Haha, I caught it. But I was still trying to help the guy out. You'd never know what some people might try out of negative knowledge.

Haha...Was thinking of Talladega Nights, and it's an inside joke with one of my friends. I was going for the light sided exit haha.

I'll be honest with you guys when I am using my PSP the volume isn't always as loud as I know it could be so that extra audio output really does the trick so I can hear my PS3 audio through my PSP better.

I like to play movies/music on my PSP when I'm brewing in the garage and without that extra volume I can't hear anything over the rumbling of my propane burner.

I put mine on the highest number (I thought it was only 2?). I have my PS3 hooked up with an HDMI cable to my Sony reciever then another HDMI to my TV. Most movies and games play perfect around volume 15 on my reciever (Except the two Motorstorm games for some reason need to be turned down) but on some movies I have to crank it up to 30 just to hear people talking. So I figured I'd leave my PS3 set to the highest setting and just use my reciever volume to adjust the sound.

I don't get any clipping or distortion.

Anything over 0 and the sound will sometimes be distorted for me so I leave mine at 0.
