Default Changing release dates

This is driving me nuts!!!!!

Why can't they just set a release schedule and stick to it? Why do we have to put up with titles being listed as coming on a particular date then right at the last minute it becomes clear they aren't going to appear?

I was really looking forward to getting Bruce Almighty on Monday, but on play.com the release date has now moved to 6th August.

Okay, I've got used to it now, and I try not to get my hopes up and only assume a title will be released when it's actually in stock, but it's still really annoying!

What is it about Blu-ray that means they can't stick to schedules? I've never heard of this happening with DVDs.

Perhaps it's just that Blu-rays are selling so well that they can't replicate enough discs and they'd rather wait till they've replicated enough to meet demand before releasing

From some searching it seems Buena Vista have the UK rights, so I think it will get released here on Blu-ray at some point.

No, but up until recently it still had a release date of 25th June listed. Now there's no release date at all:

I hate it too, I'm not sure why they can't stick to a schedules.

Another thing I hate is when they announce a title will be coming to Blu-ray but don't give a release date. 24 Season 1 and Prision Break Seaon 1 were both announce coming to Blu-ray a couple of months ago, still no release date. Stargate Atlantis Season1 was announce back in 2006 to be one of the first shows on Blu-ray, over 9 month later still no release date.

The first two are Fox titles, Stargate is MGM, which is handled by Fox and we all know that Fox has put a hold on Blu Ray.

The other thing is, Fox's regular Blu Ray titles list for $39.95, just think a whole season of a TV show would cost from Fox.

I wish I had a job where I could make my own deadlines and postpone them without any explanation to my customers. The funny thing is, if anyone else as any other job did this, they would be fired. Except weather guys, they get to keep their jobs for being correct 50% of the time

Yes, I know they're all Fox tiles or are being handled by Fox. Stargate Atlantis was put on hold way before Fox started the putting a hold on almost all their Blu-rays.

A lot of Blu-ray titles and DVD for that matter have a high suggested retail price
For example Ghost Rider on DVD is listed with a suggested retial price of $28.95-$29.99 Will it be that price, no. More like $14 to 17 the first week then $19 to $23 for a couple of weeks.

How much a whole season of a TV show would cost from Fox, I would say around $60-$100. HBO has Sopranos Season 6 Part 1 for a list price of 129.99 (90.95 at Amazon) HBO has always been way over price. I see 24, Prison Break and Stargate Atlantis in the same price range as Nip/Tuck 4th Season List price 79.99 (55.95 at Amazon)

As an example of what I'm talking about, play had the following titles listed for release yesterday (11th June):
POTC
POTC 2
Apocalypto
Goodfellas
Broken Arrow
Bruce Almighty
Chain Reaction
Phonebooth
Mr and Mrs Smith

Of these, it seems only POTC and POTC2 have actually been released. And even those were previously listed for weeks ago.

Next week we're supposed to be getting Blood Diamond, Cruel Intentions and Superman among others. I'd like all three of those, but there's no point ordering them until next week when we can see if they actually get released.

I get the impression this problem isn't happening the same in the US, as there are polls each week about titles that are going to be released, and I haven't seen anybody say that most of the titles don't turn up in the end.

We don't have Crank or The Prestige either, more titles we're waiting for here in the UK! The Prestige is showing as 2nd July on play, I'll believe it when I see it on the shelf in HMV!

I'm very sceptical that it really is available, but I've ordered it from them just to see what happens
