This is very true! I remembered when they released each individual film in the Friday the 13th series. Despite the enormous amount of available bonus materials at the time, they released each film as a complete bare bones version, with only the trailer for an extra. The same for the original Titanic dvd release. To be fair, they eventually re-released the titles--F13 in a collector's set (I didn't enjoy the movies enough to double dip, despite the extras), and Titanic received a 3-disc version a few years ago. But still, as a whole, Paramount is not the leader of the pack when I think of studios that release stellar DVDs. I think New Line is probably one of the best.

While I would like disc art, as long as Paramount keeps delivering high bitrate video encodes with lossless sound I'll be happy. Their releases since coming back to Blu-ray have been very good overall.

*shakes his head as it becomes painfully obvious that all of his hopes for the future of humanity are dying... and not as slowly as he had previously predicted*

Does anyone keep their discs on display in the living room or on the walls? Most people don't even have the case artwork visible 99.9% of the time! The spine of the case is really all that matters about the PHYSICAL asthetics of ANY type of home digital media. So, here I ask the MOST IMPORTANT question within this thread...

WHO CARES?!?!?!

Seriously, is this what the world is coming to?

I now have a migrain... But I agree with you 100000%. And what's more, I actually don't mind the fact they match. I take a disc out (which looks the same as DVD and HD DVD I might, and Paramount isn't the only studio that's had their discs match, I believe Universal's discs all matched back in the day as well) look at it... and then guess where it goes... in my player. I tend to look at what's on the disc content wise more than what's printed on the disc.

All I really care about is PQ/AQ and if it has a couple of magic logos on it namely DTS-MA or Dolby True HD. I just listed Top Guns's packaging for those concerned.

I CARE!!!!11!!!!1one!!111!!!!!

I am a collector. I take my movies very seriously. All aspects of a movie including cover and disc art to menu screen layout all factor into the total package.

Now with that in mind, the thread now has a purpose. It just doesn't warrant your attention.

It might have been a desire for uniformity among their discs....but then that doesn't explain shooter!?!?

Paramount has used that grey scheme on dvds for years, I dont think its cheap as it costs the same either way. I think they have a method to their madness

I am a collector as well and I take my movies very seriously. But that's just... it I take my MOVIES seriously! The only two areas of concern when it comes to the aesthetics of a purchase are:

#1. What the actual case looks like (keep the Blu-case as it is for ALL released)
#2. Anything that shows up on my television screen.

Everything else is trivial and there are far more important things in life to direct ones personal attention to. *****ing and moaning about what a disc looks like when 99.999999999999% of it's life cycle is spent out of sight is plain ridiculous. And anyone who cares even the slightest really needs to find another hobby to replace those precious hours spent staring at disc artwork.

Yeah I noticed this on The Sum Of All Fears also. Cheapskates

I don't plan on changing hobbies anytime soon and disc art will continue to be a concern.

Does that make you mad?

Agreed. I noticed on the DVDs the grey boring look. But that doesnt bother me to much.

I've noticed the paper they are printing the covers on is really cheap. Every single Paramount cover I have from their new titles has a wrinkled cover. They're even wrinkled in the store. No other studios' covers wrinkle. Just theirs. Kinda sucks.

Frankly I could careless what is on the top of the disk. It's inside the player when its playing and can not be seen. As long as there is a name on it to avoid confusion I'm fine.

Paramount becomes cheap? At least the have lossless on all Blu Ray's. If you were talking about studio's being cheap join the Warner bashing train it's fun.

Wow, you must be like me--always looking for the Blu-ray with no bent slip covers and the cover has to be in perfect position--in line with the clear plastic cover on the top and bottom.

I forget which studio(I believe it was Disney) but they had very good research showing that disc art(on dvds) was highly desired by the average consumer. People want their products to look good I guess.
