Default The X-Files?

http://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/42...ng-back-to-fox

the show's return was officially announced.....does anyone think this means the show might finally come out on blu? and if so, would they just throw it out there without much effort or would Fox be willing to spend the time and money to give it the Star Trek TNG treatment?

I was a HUGE fan of the original X-Files...will have to give this a shot once it airs...

Good thing is the basic cast (Scully & Mulder) will be the same as well as the creative force (Chris Carter) behind the series...

This news is a total shock to me!

The wishlist thread for The X-Files is one of the most popular on the forum ...

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=208637

All the episodes have been remastered by illuminate Hollywood to a very high standard!

It would never need the TNG treatment, as there's a lot less that needs doing and there aren't a whole lot of optical elements to re-scan. They have redone a few effects for the HD airings and they're quite well done.

There are plenty of comparisons in the above link.

They have been talking about this for a while, now and seemed like they were really close. Glad to see it is finally official.

Big fan of the show since day one. Hopefully this will tie in to a release on Blu-ray.

didn't realize there was already a thread, so the mods can feel free to either delete this one or move stuff over to that one. but yeah those screencaps looks pretty good. so if most of the work is already done then awesome!!!

They'll finally explain what happened with the alien invasion stuff(which in the series was to take place in 2012).

Hopefully, they'll stick a little more to the "monster of the week" formula. The black ooze/alien colonization thing, was just waaaaaay to drawn out and confusing. It quickly wore out it's welcome.

Would love to see them hunt down Mr. Flukeman again!!!

I can't wait for this! Hopefully it does well and we'll get more seasons. One 6 episode season would be such a tease . As for whether the X - files gets a blu release, honestly I don't really care, I have all the seasons on dvd already so I'm good. For some reason I don't really care about having tv seasons only on dvd...

Epic wishlist thread already exists for this.

I don't think it means anything for the BD necessarily. 24 got a revival and it didn't mean BDs for the original seasons.

I'm the opposite. Until the original 9 seasons are released on Blu-ray I'm complete indifferent about any new episodes airing. Felt the same way about 24. Still haven't watched Live Another Day. Own both shows on DVD and have watched them numerous times over the years. The fact I own these shows on DVD is beside the point. DVD had its day. At this stage of the game I'm done with SD video. Not watching these shows again until they get the Blu-ray treatment. Once that happens I'll get excited about new episodes of these shows airing.

Agreed plus it's FOX. They are horrible with starting and stopping TV releases on blu so I don't see it happening at all.

They better include this in the story-arc. It would be an error not to.

It will depend solely on whether they want to spend the money on tweaking the effects and the Blu-ray authoring costs. But these will definitely become available digitally at some point in the future.

There's about 80 episodes left to air in HD, and they've been airing a few a week. I can't see them releasing the BDs between them finishing and the new series starting, so we might hear more news after mini-series has finished. Although if they involve stories from the series, it would be an excellent time to include a themed set to refresh our memories.

If they're ever going to do it releasing the series on BD along with the new mini-series on BD would be the way to do so. If it doesn't happen then the chances literally plummet of it ever happening, like 24's have.

I think that with the evidently low ratings of Live Another Day, it's concrete proof that if that tie-in won't get 24 on BD, nothing will. You can get it in HD if you want to line Vudu's pockets, but otherwise, I think that seeing in HD won't be happening.

I think it's going to come down to the ratings of the new show as to if they decide to release a Blu-Ray set of the old series. It these new 6 episodes bomb in the ratings, as the second film did in theaters, you can probably give up any hope there will be a Blu release of the original show.

Yes. And I think if X-Files doesn't happen when this new miniseries comes out on BD then it will be in a similar boat.

Catalog TV on BD sells like crap, sadly. TV in general sells like crap on BD from what I have read, unless you're HBO. People are much quicker to switch to streaming with TV compared to movies.

its probably cuz the average joe still can't wrap their mind around blu-ray. they all think "i have the dvd, its the same thing". and of course some people don't want to or see the point in double dipping a tv series.

Physical media doesn't sell much anymore, it's just the way the market is going.

I wouldn't say that in general, not yet. It's certainly selling less every year, but it still sells a lot as of right now. It's just that certain types of it are selling much less, namely TV and catalog TV in particular. I would guess people are switching to streaming much faster for modern shows so they can watch them around when they air, and people are satisfied with DVD for catalog TV.

Overall though yes, physical media is slowly becoming more niche and will eventually be a collectors only market like laserdisc was.
