Arrow The Billion Brick Race (LEGO Spin-off - writer/directors Jason Segel & Drew Pearce)

Quote:
Add another LEGO movie to the schedules, as The Billion Brick Race will mark Drew Pearce and Jason Segel's feature directing debut.

And so the number of in-development LEGO movies goes up by one. We already know about next year's LEGO: Ninjago, and 2017's The LEGO Batman Movie. The LEGO Movie Sequel is set to follow in 2018, and there's likely another Ninjago film to slot in as well.

Now we learn that Jason Segel is to make his directorial debut with The Billion Brick Race. He's co-directing and co-writing with Iron Man 3 and Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation writer Drew Pearce (Pearce also directed the Marvel one-shot, All Hail The King). Pearce is also tackling one of Sony's new Ghostbusters movies. The LEGO Brick Movie will mark his feature directorial debut too.

Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Dan Lin and Roy Lee are producing, and inevitably, not too much is known about the film thus far. The Hollywood Reporter notes that the idea for this one came from Drew Pearce (as did the plan for one of Sony's new Ghostbusters movies).

More news as we hear it....

If this turns out to be essentially Lego Wacky Races and sticks to the tone and execution of the original, I'm sold.

That pretty much sums up my feelings as well.

I'm intrigued right now at the very least.

Looks like they learned from Storks that you need animation people to head these productions instead of a live-action director who got lucky with a couple of comedies.

And before you say Wes Anderson, remember that Mark Gustafson basically directed much of Fantastic Mr. Fox himself when Anderson was too busy to leave his apartment and would send e-mails to tell Gustafson what to do.

Storks was a waste of talent (the guy behind Presto should have been able to come up with something a lot better but seemed to got overruled by the hack who did Neighbors) with one of the worst messages ever put into a children's film. I don't understand how anyone could get such enjoyment from a poorly-scripted and cliched film.

I know that people here and other places love to hate on Illumination but they can at least come up with a funnier and better-crafted story.

Illumination thinks they can make money off of anything now and basically don't try (see: Despicable Me 3). I think WBA did try with Storks to be original, but it was a mess of ideas.
