Never seen this, but I'll probably give it a blind buy though. Feel like I need to fill some gaps in my knowledge of 80s British cinema.

Very good movie, but what's up with that ridiculously bad artwork from Criterion? It seriously looks like something you'd find on that Perez Hilton site. A rear miss from Criterion in this dept. Their covers are usually works of art.

I haven't watched this one in at least 20 years.... glad I waited for the BD release before revisiting. Looking forward to this one!

Haven't ever seen this, but it may end up being yet another buy amongst the fairly loaded July slate.

I think that the artwork is appropriate to the time and feel of the film. The lick is a strange choice, but I like it. Undoubtedly it's far superior to the ridiculous theatrical poster.

My Beautiful Laundrette Blu-ray REVIEW

Excellent release

The 2K restoration is very good and the Blu-ray represents a massive upgrade in quality over the old MGM disc. The strength of this release, however, is in the extras department. Fantastic interviews. The one with Hanif Kureishi, in particular, is invaluable. Frears also had some excellent comments about Lindsay Anderson, Karel Reisz, Thatcher's legacy, etc.

An hour of quality supplemental features is always preferable over three hours of random talk.

A must-buy release.

I just finished watching My Beautiful Laundrette and I found it really enjoyable. I can see where some people could be turned off by it, though, but I liked how the film touched on several different and still-relevant topics (racial, social, and generational issues in particular). I also thought it was interesting/great that the two central characters are gay, but that doesn't ever really become a problematic issue for the other characters in the film, which is nice to see. The acting ranged from mediocre to great, and I thought both Daniel Day-Lewis and Gordon Warnecke did well. I was also glad to see that this film was kind of the start of Working Title; I find that I usually really like the films produced by Working Title, and My Beautiful Laundrette is no exception.

Anyone know if this is the master from the Criterion or BFI release in this clip below? Park Circus are rereleasing the film to UK cinemas next month but I wouldn’t go if it’s the older master

I've always wondered why Frear/Kureishi's subsequent collaboration, SAMMY AND ROSIE GET LAID, has never even been on DVD anywhere.
