Default I've yet to calibrate my TV

I just went to my TV menu today to screw around and saw I had it set to Dynamic with the standard settings! My TV is the Samsung TX-S2782H. I'm too impatient to go out and buy a calibration disc and am too cheap to pay $400 on a TV that practically is worth less than that. If you can help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I posted this earlier in the calibration thread. I figured posting here would be better.

You should get the HD essentials disc for bluray. It has everything you need on the disc to tweak your T.V.

If you have any movies laying around that are THX, you can do basic calibrations with the THX optimizer menu.

I tried HD Essentials and it was kinda confusing and it hardly did a difference. Try tweaktv.com. That's how I tweaked mine and it looks a hell of a lot better then what I got with the Essentials Disc.

for my samsung lcd, all i did was hook up the blu-ray player and put in casino royal, and when you get to the menu screen press 7669 and enter and it auto calibrated my tv's contrast, brightness, tint, color, sharpness, and backlight, I had changed my white balance, but it reset it back to the original settings. I had originally used cnet's darkroom settings, the disc changed them. I actually like it better.

All the Sony test pattern is is a test pattern. It doesn't auto change anything.

I just did the tweaktv thing. I guess I need to watch a movie and see what it did.

The only thing I can think of is that the settings aren't being saved whenever you adjust them. I see you have a Samsung, and I know on my Samsung you don't have to do anything to save the settings other than exit the menu.

Are you checking the settings on the input that was calibrated? Each input will have its own settings.

You'd probably still notice a good bit of difference. Is it a 4x3 set? Just wondering. You can get the DVE disc fairly inexpensively, I think Amazon sells it for around 20 bones. Or, if you have Netflix, just get it from there.

Oh I know I'll notice a difference. That's why I started this discussion. It is a 4:3. Here's the link if you want to see what it looks like.
