I understand your cynicism, but aren't you kind-of using it to intimidate anybody who might have something to say about a classic out of saying what they would say?
I mean, making anybody who has seen it and not liked it feel stupid or immature is a really shallow way to defend your movie.
Keep in mind that a lot of people, born after 1970, have had the Godfather hyped-up to them, beyond belief. Everybody says it's the best. When I finally watched it, when I was sixteen, I hated it because everybody venerated it with such a lather, that my expectations were set too high.
I thought Godfather was pretty lame.

So, saying somebody coming on here, to trash a movie, is just trying to be cool is at least a little off base. Don't you think?
They're coming here, doing exactly what the thread title entitles them to do, clicking post and saying what they wanted to say.
I'd argue that poo-pooing opinions of people who come on and (even if you think it's just to stir-things-up) state unpopular opinions is trying a little harder to "be cool" than they are.
They're just following orders. You're the rebel with the greasy hair and lightning bolt sunglasses.

I cannot stand Nicolas Cage in anything.
Same goes for John Travolta.

Sometimes I wonder if the hype surrounding something is so immense, that when people finally see it they feel stupid for saying that they didn't get it or like it and so they tell you they loved it.

It's never bothered me when someone thinks a movie that I love sucks. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. If they leave it at sucks and cannot add reasons why it sucked, I usually disregard their comment as not very thoughtful. To each his own.

2001: A Space Odyssey

Not really sure what to expect from never seeing this one, but holy cow... I thought There Will Be Blood was a go no where movie. This one takes the cake. It really felt like a waste of time. Just don't get that one.

oh yeah. Hey, a 5 year old thread lives again

The Hangover - saw it, had the odd chuckle but didn't see why people were so attracted to it because as a whole, it isn't funny.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind and ET - saw them, have no desire to ever see them again.

Yeah, yeah, it's predictable, but the Godfather part II. Part I did something but I still don't like it that much.

And Rocky Horror.

John Wick is a pretty recent example for me. The action was great and it had a nice look, but everything else made me felt like I'd be better off watching DREDD again.

Can't really explain why but:

Sin City
Blade Runner
Lord of the Rings
The Hobbit
Harry Potter
Raimi's Spider-Man Trilogy
Guardian's of the Galaxy
John Wick
Ghostbusters
Gremlins
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
The Godfather
Twilight
The Hunger Games
Paranormal Activity

I enjoy almost every genre of film. And it's not that I hate the ones I listed. I simply just don't get the love for them. Then again I'm sure there are plenty of people who don't get my love for Rocky, Rambo, Jaws, & Star Wars. To each their own I suppose.

The Dark Knight. It's a good film but I can't understand the hype. I think maybe it's just the comic book fans but really even with that, it's just a really good adaptation. How could it be considered one of the best films of all time? Heath Ledger is amazing as the Joker sure, the cinematography is great, but that's about it. The action choreography is average, the story is average, the dialogue is average, there's nothing that amazing about the film in my opinion. Maybe I'm missing something.

The Dark Knight: overrated and not even in the top 25 comic book movies.
The Dark Knight Rises: The single dumbest movie ever made.
Inception: Wants to be deep but is just silly.
Interstellar: Wants to be deep but is just silly and doesn't make any sense when it comes to people doing anything that would actually happen.
