Default Why can't all blu ray's have the same special features as their collectors sets?

I really want to get the 4 musical collection Blu Ray that includes: Singin in the Rain, The Band Wavon, Calamity Jane and Kiss Me Kate. I love musicals. I had been wanting to get Singin in the Rain on blu for a long time but held off because most of the special features on the collectors box set edition are not on the single blu of that movie. I love special features. I recently bought the new Sound of Music 50th anniversary blu just so I could have all the special features ( only had that movie on DVD never in blu ray). It seems that with the new 4 movie musical blu I mentioned Singin in the Rain is still missing most of the special features that are in the collectors set. Why can't all blu ray editions have the same special features. I do not need a big box set that just includes some nicknacks and is too big for my apartment space. I just care about the movie and the special features. I was very happy that The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz included all the special features if you didn't get the collectors big box sets. Anyone else feel this way?

Yes, I feel that way too.
Actually i also wanted the 4 musicals set, but I want the special features in Singin in the Rain too.

I guess this is a smart move so that they gain more profit.
Whoever wants special feaures and is interested in all 4 musicals will buy Singin in the Rain twice, or all 4 musicals individually (if he doesn't want to double dip on Singin in the Rain)

It seems we are both in agreement about wanting all the special features that the Singin in the Rain box set comes with. You're right it's all about profit but that is so unfair to the buyers of blu ray's.

I know how you feel.

I'm annoyed that the first Die Hard has almost none of the extras from the special edition DVD. I want to buy blu-rays to replace my DVD collection, not just add more stuff on my shelves!

That's too bad that the first Die Hard is missing the special features from the 2 disc DVD. I really believe that all blu ray's should include all the special features that were previously released on their DVD and also include the same special features as the big box collectors sets. That's probably why people who upgrade their movies from a DVD to a blu ray keep their DVD because it has more special features.

The extras from the Singin' in the Rain set are all on DVDs anyway. Just buy a used copy of the old 2-disc SE DVD and you'll be set. Same exact discs.

And with the amount of people willing to double, triple, quadruple dip for something as superficial as different box art, spreading out features makes $en$e.

Once upon a time, extras were an interesting selling point for DVD, back when people actually bought discs. Those days are long gone, and the novelty has worn off. If those are put on the disc now, it's usually an afterthought, or for collector-oriented fans who'll buy the DVD AND the Blu-ray anyway, and with the state of the market, hey might as well milk it.

Purely financial. They want people to double-dip. Just look at Star Wars - did the blu-ray a few years ago, just released digital version with new features and it costs more. I know in some cases they are compressing to fit more than one movie on a disk when they release a 4 movie set for example - they need the space. But when it is just a single disc release of the movie, there is no real reason not to.

And it's business strangle held by unions, contracts, and other egotistical things.

So no, the go to answer that they want us to double/triple/multi dip isn't always the reason. Supplementary features cost money, unions made it so folks participating in these features get money, including these on another format involves more money.

The easy solution to stop giving out money is to exclude the stuff that requires that.

I do hate those big collectors boxes. A nice digipack or whatever is one thing, but those huge boxes are just silly. I got the Dark Knight Trilogy one for random reasons and really hate having it.

I love them. And yet I keep complaining about running out of shelf space.

I guess I'm just not a very smart man.

the thing with me is that I don't like boxes with different movies that are sold together for a reason other than same director, actor, franchise.
I mean, i like it when it's the same director (hitchcock set, spielberg set), same actor (monroe set, James Dean set), franchise (Indiana Jones, Rocky, Rambo), but same genre or same year or another reason box sets I don't. (eg. the musical box, the 1939 box etc.)

Because people are willing to pay for all these.
If nobody would buy stuff like this, it wouldn't sell, so studios would stop doing it. But we might get less extra features though.
