Default Pre-order new titles

Has Pre-order become the marketing gimmick of the Home Video Studios?

Film studios advertise a film then open it in 3,000 theaters hoping audiences will see it before the bad reviews and word of mouth spreads

This seems to be the case with Blu-ray, where you can get a better deal if you order early (Esp on Amazon) or secure a limited title from Twilight - without reviews. If you wait until the reviews come out it could be months or even a year before you see a price drop, or the title "Body Double" could be sold out.

See the Frank Sinatra Set or the remastered Goodfellas for a good and bad review

If the reviews are bad the price usually drops earlier - but it's too late if you pre-ordered and the reviews are bad - your disc has already shipped

It's always been this way. If you buy release week it's a little cheaper than after that, which is a marketing tool to get you to buy it as soon as possible rather than waiting for a price drop or rental. It's been like this since DVD's early days.
