Based on true story that took place back in 1996 as described in the books "Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mt. Everest Disaster" which led death of several climbers. Must be a thrilling adventure and being a mountaineer myself, Imma watch this as soon as it comes out.

Looks really good, and it's a great cast.
Even if I weren't interested in this, though, I'd be seeing it anyways. It looks like the last time I'll have a chance to see Keira Knightley in anything new for a long while. But yeah. I think this will probably be pretty gripping and powerful. Looking forward to it. |

Yes it's a great story, there was quite an enjoyable TV film made of it (same title as the book I think, Into Thin Air). I hope this is good. No one has made a really good film about K2 yet, lots of deaths & good stories there.

Everest, which is based on an ill-fated 1996 expedition to the world's highest summit, is a visually remarkable film that deserves to be viewed on a big theater screen, where one can marvel at the cinematography and the images of snowy mountain landscapes. This movie features an ensemble cast of actors who play their roles in a no-frills fashion, and, while the storytelling is not quite as impressive as the visuals, it still delivers a good dose of emotional catharsis, especially considering the fact that most of us are already aware of the outcome. There are quite a few harrowing sequences, but the film also conveys the allure of such an adventure, and it is sympathetic to the motivations of the climbers. I left the theater eager for adventures of my own, and I expect that most other viewers will feel the same way.
I went to the theater down the street this morning after my run to see the standard 2D showing of Everest, since my lazy eye prevents me from getting the full gist of 3D films. If you can handle 3D, however, then I recommend seeing this movie at an IMAX theater, because I imagine that the photography will be all the more astounding in that setting. |
