Default onkyo 606 D True HD question.

To anyone with an onkyo 606 and a 7.1 speakers set up and the audio set up to True HD , when playing a Dolby True HD blu-ray, do you get sound out of the 7 speakers or just from 5 speakers as a 5.1 set up??

depends on the movie. If the movie is 5.1 then you get 5.1. If its 7.1 you will get 7.1. If its a 5.1 movie the back 2(6th & 7th speaker) will replocate what is comming out of the 4th and 5th speaker. make sense?

yes , but dolby true Hd is allways 5.1 (DTS HD sometimes is 7.1), so what are you telling is that playing dolby true hd wich is 5.1 you would get sound out from the 7 speakers but as it is a 5.1 soundtrack the sound coming out from the 6 and 7 speaker will be the same sound comeing out from the 4 and 5 speaker??

Unless I'm missing something specific to TrueHD, the 606 can't matrix 5.1 sound into 7.1.

This could be true now that you mention it. If you hear sound out of the 6th and 7th its replicated or copied from 4th and 5th. either way it doesnt make much of a difference unless the disc is actually 7.1 .

Yes if you hear sound in 6th and 7th speaker on a 5.1 sound track

I dont understand the IF, do you mean that for sure you hear sound from the 7 speakers with the receiver audio set up in Dolby true HD with Dolby true hd soundtrack.
Sorry to be a pain but i have a good 5.1 speaker set from Monitor Audio but I'm thingking about buing the 2 extra speakers so i have a 7.1 speaker set up.
But to know that really worth the upgrade a need to know if i will get some sound from the 7 speakers not just with DTS HD MA 7.1.

Let me put it this way. IMO your not going to get any benefit from 7.1 if all you are listening to is 5.1 soundtracks. If you start going with DTS HD MA then you would love having 7.1. Its worth them money to have but if you never buy a DTS HD MA 7.1 movie its not worth it. does that help

No I have a Sony 7.1 Receiver. I use the PS3 to decode the audio thru HDMI.
