Onkyo 606 question - Blu-ray Forum

specs say it has a video scale 720/1080i so if i connect the ps3 to the 606 through HDMI then the 606 to the TV.. am i only getting 1080i?
second question i heard the ps3 does not get dolbytrueHD or DTSHD.. is this true? thanks guys!

Don't know about the display part...but the PS3 has TrueHD and DTS-MA. It won't bitstream them however, and will do the processing internally and send the signal out via LPCM to reciever. So on your reciever, it just says multichannel PCM ect. To check which codec your running, push the select button on the PS3 controller.

As for the video 720/1080i it will only upconvert/ display content that high, for example if you have a dvd you can't have it set to upconvert to 1080p or have a 1080i hdtv cable/sat box upconvert to 1080p, but all your blu-ray's will be the normal wonderful 1080p.

What happens is on the 606 you wont see on the receiver dts-hd or trueHD but the ps3 will send it out via Lin PCM and you will hear it, you just won't have it show up.

I have it in my bedroom and couldn't be more pleased with it

(it does get HOT, so make sure if you get it you have a place where it gets good air circulation)
