KilloWertz noticed Amazon had a listing for a Boys on the Side Blu-ray release on 11 Aug 2015.
What's interesting is that the following Regency titles are also being released on the same date. A few are new to Blu-ray but most have been previously released by WB. More interesting is that all are listed with a Fox UPC (prefix starts with 0-24543) and WB just released Empire Records a few months ago on 07 Apr 2015. This might mean the WB titles will be going OOP here shortly. (0-24543-21597-4) Bogus (0-24543-21604-9) Breaking up (0-24543-21601-8) Boys on the Side (0-24543-21605-6) Carpool (0-24543-21488-5) Copycat* (0-24543-21616-2) Dangerous Beauty (0-24543-21494-6) Empire Records* (0-24543-21607-0) Goodbye Lover (0-24543-21502-8) Heat* (0-24543-21543-1) L.A. Confidential* (0-24543-21608-7) Made in America (0-24543-21562-2) The Man Who Knew Too Little* (0-24543-21569-1) The Negotiator* (0-24543-21610-0) The New Age (0-24543-21583-7) North Star (0-24543-21588-2) The Nutcracker (0-24543-21575-2) Once Upon a Time in America* (0-24543-21611-7) Second Best (0-24543-21579-0) Sommersby* (0-24543-21614-8) The Sunchaser (0-24543-21615-5) That Night * Previously released by WB. Warner has (or possibly now had) a 20th anniversary edition of Heat planned for 10/6. I really hope this doesn't affect that potential release especially if it is or was possibly going to be a new encode or even a 4K remaster.

Yep, all the titles were just "cutout" on Warner's Press site, meaning they're OOP from them. I'd suggest people pick these titles up now if they want them as who knows if the Fox distributed ones will be the same as far as extras go, etc..

If that one does get re-released I wonder if we would eventually get the original version.

Some more Regency titles that could find their way to Blu from Fox:
Man on Fire (1987) (currently with Sony) Family Business (1989) (currently with Sony) Q&A (1990) (currently with Fox, via HBO) Memoirs of an Invisible Man (1992) (currently with Warner Bros.) The Mambo Kings (1992) (currently with Warner Bros.) That Night (1993) (currently with Warner Bros.) Made in America (1993) (currently with Warner Bros.) Six Degrees of Separation (1993) (currently with MGM) Cobb (1994) (currently with Warner Bros.) Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home (1995) (currently with Warner Bros.) Tin Cup (1996) (currently with Warner Bros.) The Sunchaser (1996) (currently with Warner Bros.) Murder at 1600 (1997) (currently with Warner Bros.) Goodbye Lover (1999) (currently with Warner Bros.) Meanwhile, a few of these (Q&A, The Mambo Kings, Cobb, The Sunchaser, Goodbye Lover) would feel at home with a boutique label like Twilight Time if Fox does get most, if not all the pre-1999 Regency titles (I can't see Universal giving up domestic rights to Brazil or Legend and Pretty Woman's worldwide rights will always be with Disney). The films being re-issued in August are all 100% Regency. Basically anything that shows copyright Regency and Monarchy Enterprises, Warner only distributed. |

That doesn't seem likely. It's been almost twenty years and the rights holder hasn't mellowed and Warner hasn't shown any interest in pressing to reinsert the original footage.

The deal is the same with Regency's current deal with Fox. Certain films Fox is co-financing but there are quite a few 100% Regency or other financers like Mr. & Mrs. Smith and 12 Years a Slave.
Regency was with Warner throughout the 1990's and moved to Fox in 2000. It does not look like they will be moving to a new studio soon. In addition, there are a few films Legendary produced that Warner only distributed 42 and The Seventh Son which WB was going to release but Universal ended up releasing it when they moved to the studio. I have been wanting Tin Cup, hopefully Fox will release it on Blu ray. The copyright at the end credits of films is the best way to see who owns it or who holds the permanent rights. I sure hope Cobb gets released soon, whether part of this deal or not (probably not since it was a joint Regency-Warner release). Tommy Lee Jones was never better in a role than in this film. If you are a baseball fan, it rocks. If not, you will appreciate a rousing well-made biopic filled with lots of quotable lines and enough sense of the history of the greatest game on earth to perhaps make you one.
