Default Layer Cake PQ

I watched Layer Cake last night. I could not decide how good the PQ was. There is a lot of sharp detail, but night scenes leave a lot to be desired. I thought it looked like a projector picture on my plasma. It gave a nice "theater like" experience, I am a fan of it because of that faux experience.

What is the general consensus regarding the overall PQ of Layer Cake.

4/5? 4.5/5?

According to these twenty user reviews PQ is 4.5/5. The site reviewer also gave it 4.5 for pq.

Layer Cake as some of the best PQ for an early release title. However, the OP is right, night scenes leave a lot to be desired. Id say 5/5 on day scenes, but 2.5/5 on night scenes, don't know how that really avg. it out. Probably a 4/5 for volitility.

Does having a #'d score make watching the movie any more or less pleasurable?

I'll say that there are some obvious pop scenes like the intro in the drugstore and that overall I found it a very enjoyable flick to watch, PQ wise. I'm not sure I understand the thought process behind trying to nail it down to a number however.

It's a great flick and I really recommend it if you haven't seen it- reminiscent of Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels or Snatch or Go. Daniel Craig is excellent in it. I love having this one in my collection, even though there's no lossless audio.

Please don't included Go with the other titles listed it may influence someone to not see this movie because of your comparison. It's not even close to the other titles you mentioned, not to mention that it's not British in the first place.

Solid 4 for PQ, but I do all my viewing on a 37" 720p aquos from 8-9 feet away.... so take that into consideration... I haven't seen it on my other t.v. (32" in bedroom, same viewing distance)

Technically, Linear PCM is uncompressed, not "lossless." The term "lossless" still implies data compression being used -even though the type of compression being used doesn't throw away any native data.

Ok, I haven't watched in awhile and couldn't remember if it had lossless or not for sure. My mistake.

I liked Go. It doesn't have to be British to remind me of the movie. The overall frantic feel of the two films is similar in my opinion, which is why I stand by the comparison. I wasn't trying to just list British movies. Sorry you don't agree.

Either way there is a terrific audio track on this release.

I think Layer Cake has great PQ, probably a 4/5. There is a lot of detail in a majority of the scenes.

You should buy a house with a room that you could dedicate to home theater.

Matthew Vaughn, the director of Layer Cake, produced both Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels which is why the comparison works well in that instance.

As for Go, Layer Cake doesn't jump around with timeline of the film which was the big thing about that movie, and it's lack of success at it is why I hate it so much.

Yeah, I agree on the night scenes. The black levels were just poor. I'd give it a 4/5 for that alone.
