Default How Do You Personally Promote Blu-ray?

I have helped a few friends make the switch to real HD... including ridiculing my friend who was Pro-HD-DVD and refused to touch blu-ray until about 3 weeks ago... as well as making some promo stuff for my work (new header over the blu-ray section... new top for a floor-standing rack)... and this coming week I will be trying to convince my uncle to go blu... after all... the sooner blu takes over, the sooner we get our movies for less!

What has been your part in promoting Blu-ray?

Oh and here's the picture of my signage... well... the main one anyways

Basically the one we had before was waaaay too dark blue, and it was just the blu-ray logo in the middle... so I made this one

I got one friend to whom I've mentioned bluray and all it's benefits but HDTV is not his priority at the moment so I can't do much with him.
Another friend I got is even worse and you won't believe it but he does not want to have a TV in his apartment (Any TV HD or not). Whenever I bring the topic he always goes: what for ?

I don't bother promoting because I don't make a dime off of it.

yep... same here.

My father-in-law actually asked me about how much players were, and how many movies were available, and I told him not to bother (because he would have had a coronary if I told him the price of players) and he is mostly into indie flicks, so he'd just complain all the time.... and I don't have to listen to that!

the best way to promote is to just show them the quality of it even when compared to hd tv channels

i don't promote because i don't care that much about it. sure, it's nice that blu-ray exists and all, but honestly, if the government wasn't helping me i wouldn't have bought a blu-ray player. much less a new t.v. too. in fact the last purchase i made was dvd related and i absolutely love it. i do like the non-scratching with blu-rays and was thinking about that with my latest dvd purchase, but aside from that i haven't put much thought into it really. i haven't watched a blu-ray movie in months it seems. but that's for a lot of reasons and not because of blu-ray itself. i never cared much when dvd came out either. i didn't promote or anything. i'm not that real gung ho on this type of stuff. as long as i can watch my movies i don't care too much about what's it's playing on. with the exception of vhs. i have all but given up on vhs.

I explain to those who inquire about Blu-ray that it is the ultimate High-Definition experience offering resolution that is 6x higher than DVD. I also mention the capability of viewing the menu without interrupting the movie.

so you've posted here 863 times inside of the last 2 months, and you aren't really gungho about this stuff, & you haven't watched a blu-ray in months....

just what in the hell are you doing here? besides making it difficult for people (who do care) having to read through your posts that you admittedly don't care or put much thought into?? please, either go find a chat room somewhere, read a book, do something......... but don't waste our time.

Thanks.

Nice display rack & Signage to the original poster.

yea i dont...why would I personally advertise a product. I guess I enjoy the product but am not infatuated with it. I dont put all my players and all my blu rays in my signature...just seems a bit obsessive to me.

And why ridicule your friend because of his HD DVD purchase...sounded like asshat thing to do to me

I wonder that very same thing far too often around here, especially on a forum that's supposed to be dedicated to all things BD.

Putting your collection and equipment in your sig can help other members identify products you own. I have had numerous members private message me or ask me questions in an open thread around things they identified in my sig. It has nothing to do with obsessing....though i am proud of what I have

True but some fanboys go over the top. I had both and enjoyed both. And I see your point on the sig as far as equipment goes, never thought about that

Nice display rack & Signage to the original poster.

i originally came on here for some answers to some problems i was having initially with my blu-ray player. the help was fantastic and i really appreciated it. i then started reading about the current and upcoming releases on blu-ray and such. i then began posting more. don't get me wrong. i don't hate blu-ray. i wouldn't be here if i did. i'm just not as gung ho as some others on here. there's nothing wrong with that either way. as for why i haven't watched a blu-ray in months, i already stated that i haven't watched a blu-ray in a while for a lot of reasons and not because of blu-ray itself. my not watching a blu-ray has nothing really to do with blu-ray itself.

most of the stuff i have been watching (when i watch movies and such) aren't currently on blu-ray. some of my favorite movies in fact. so i have to watch them on dvd. also i just got the box set of the whole x-files t.v. show. it's only available on dvd so i've been watching that the last week or so. and i'll be doing the same until i finish all nine seasons. that will take a good long while. it's not a knock on blu-ray. i just have something i want to watch more than my blu-ray movies. forgive me. i do apologize if my posts are grating. i'll make an effort more to be mindful of that. and in the end zip it more. thanks for the helpful advice and candor.

because thats what guys do! don't get me wrong... many times hanging out at his house i've enjoyed movies from his collection, but I couldnt let a friend who has everything better than me (except his speaker setup) go on without a current HD format

Thanks Yeah we used to have a waaay more on the floor stand rack but its a cramped way to do things so one day I moved a bunch of stuff around and when the boss came in he was actually happy about it

I would definitely say that I am not one who goes over the top... I get excited when my favorite older movie is coming out on blu-ray and I make sure all my friends who like it and own blu-ray know about it too... and I try to promote it because, as i said in my original post, the sooner it becomes "mainstream" the sooner we'll get better prices on hardware and software... and also because that way when a friend wants to borrow a movie, they actually can... and I get a lot of people borrowing my BDs

i'll buy a blu ray player for my mom any time if she wants it (she just doesnt watch BD and just watch random movies on tv).

other than that... the closest thing to promotion would be showing off my BD collection and HDTV to my friends when they come over and I usually showcase I. Robot or Ratatouille if time is short.

:P

It promotes itself.. Friends and family come over and watch it..

My parents were sold after watching the coral reefs on Planet Earth. Brother has noticed that the movies rock and the games look better than the 360 from what he's played (it was easy after letting him play Uncharted and MGS4).

Indeed.

During the format war, I always explained both sides and the studio, capacity, and bandwidth superiority of Blu-ray while HDDVD was theoretically claimed to be cheaper for mass production.

For friends who just got a new HDTV, I always start up about HDMI and 1080p which leads to Blu-ray. As I point out to them, you are not getting what you paid for from your set if you are not watching 1080p.
