Some may not realize the significance of this Blu-ray 3D, but "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water 3D" has clearly raised a bar for me that puts the 3D cell-drawn animation category at its jaw-dropping best! Never before have I experienced a 3D cartoon having such a strong fantasy flair for simulating volume splendor! Groundbreaking graphics of color simulating multitudes of characteristic forms having structural dimension.
![]() Visually strong illusional-volumes-of-solidity dominating the native-3D stereo image; and I'm not talking about CGI real-world image portions everyone here tells me they love. The cell-drawn cartoon style takes me back to my early experiences where excitement and thrill runs deep in memory. ![]() Body extremities of the cartoon's arms, legs, hands, and feet, have features mimicking real-world structural movement and are proportionally symmetrical with mass, suggesting heaviness and weight. These creations are in abundance, depicting life-like crowd movement and a world that is involved in multiple planes of dimension. The details include mouths having depth within depth, some figures having cavern-like dimensions! ![]() |

The movie utilizes both 3D CGI & cell-drawn animation styles. CGI for real-world scene interaction with humans on land, cell-drawn depicting a world underwater. Personally, got lost in the 3D visuals, enjoying details unfold, but eventually I found the story entertaining enough. If you like "Mad Magazine" type humor, it may interest you. Would describe it as a mixture of comical stupidity, and suggestive humor. Last edited by Paul H; 08-05-2015 at 03:25 PM. |

Version completists may like to note that the audio track on the UK version has the seagulls re-voiced by UK "celebrities" including Alan Carr and Stacey Solomon. The mercifully brief bit where they sing is really painful. Yes - I never watched any Spongebob before and I loved it. Much more than Home and Mars Needs Moms, which were the last animated 3D movies I watched (not that I didn't enjoy those, but Spongebob is in another league). Imagining that the 3D in this is a graphic marvel! It makes me excited thinking about evolving application possibilities for structural image formation in future 3D live-action conversions!
![]() Visual advancements so profound in stereography, a metamorphosis takes place producing images of people, objects and extremities so profound, bulk and detail so real, each plane takes on an independent entity formation! ![]() |

Thanks for the reviews on 3D> Sounds mostly like strong 3D layers in Spongebob 3D.
The 3D in the trailer was mostly strong 3D and I was definitely going to see it if it was all cel shaded, but then they switched to CGI and while the 3D was still great, I was hoping for a Cel cartoon movie. |

Picked it up, watched it, loved it. Very funny and clever movie and something i enjoyed way more than i expected i would. The 3D is stunning throughout, whether it's a 2D cartoon or live action with CG characters, as a visual piece this movie is a real tour de force.
The humour felt similar to Futurama, very quick and witty, also quite wacky, loved it. |

I'm somewhat gutted that I bought the UK edition of Mr Peabody and Sherman because the new 3D Rocky & Bullwinkle short is nowhere to be found on either disc, Dreamworks really stiffed UK 3D fans by not including it. |
